Oh man, this is bringing back memories of school... :D
There's loads of stuff, but off the top of my head, look at the Tudor monarchs. In particular, look at Henry VIII's split with Rome, the constant swinging between Protestantism and Catholicism until Elizabeth I's Religious Settlement, and then examine the foundation of the church as we know it today.

That was one of the reasons, certainly, but also that Henry was a little out of pocket. Whisperings in his ear revealed that should he take control over Church lands, he could get huge amounts of money off them, hence the dissolution of the monasteries and the chanceries.
