Anger, does it make you a Servant of Evil?(or one the sins of the flesh and passion.)

Romans 6:16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

If we let Anger rule us, and allow ourselves to be drawn into its clutches by any 'supposed' provication or slight, we let ourselves become its slave, a servant of Evil. No man can serve two masters, so anger is so strong that it causes man even unknowingly to choose his master as he will 'hold to the one, and despise the other'. The more we indulge in this sin, the more anger begins to gain power over us, and we begin to fight against work of the Holy Spirit .

Galatians 5:17
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

It is a real sin of the flesh, which can be indulged in just like any other vice, and put its hooks into a man to bring him down the same as any other lust or passion of evil.
It penetrates all the way to mans heart and changes it, making man feel he is at liberty to use anger at will, uncontrolled it soon reaches the level of hate and then makes man truly a servant to the evil one.

Romans 13:14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

How does Christ stop anger and hate?

Anger in and of itself is not a sin because Jesus got angry. It is why we get angry and how we mete it out that becomes sinful.

James 1:20
for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

Excellant!

I don't understand why many do not just go to the Word and find the answer.

One reason could be that they don't have a good computerized Bible program--it is much more difficult to find things in the Bible by hand (even with a concordance).

Secondly, if one assumes that one already knows it all--why search?

You've made some pretty good points in the perfectionism thread - good job.

Thank you. I 'll do better once I get moved and can run to a seminary library and look things up using ATLA.

It's not bad for finding verses--I use the online one once in awhile.

I use BibleWorks 7.0 (" the premier original languages Bible program providing software for Biblical exegesis and research. It comes with Greek, Hebrew, and Septuagint Bibles for your computer, as well as translations in English, German, Spanish, and many other languages!") so that I can check the Hebrew and Greek (I've already caught one here with a flawed knowledge of what the text actually said.) AND I can make my own notes that will pop up immediately when I go to the text.

I have Quickverse. I probably should reload it.

Jesus at the Temple

12Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13"It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,'[e] but you are making it a 'den of robbers.'[f]" Matthew 21:13

There is only one case that Christ became angry that He took action against others, and I always have wondered how he could "lose his cool" and still not sin.

Well here is something I found that gives an explanation:

It is true there is an indignation that is justifiable, even in the followers of Christ. When they see that God is dishonored and His service brought into disrepute, when they see the innocent oppressed, a righteous indignation stirs the soul. Such anger, born of sensitive morals, is not a sin. DA 310

Christ's indignation was directed against the hypocrisy, the gross sins, by which men were destroying their own souls, deceiving the people and dishonoring God. In the specious deceptive reasoning of the priests and rulers He discerned the working of satanic agencies. Keen and searching had been His denunciation of sin, but He spoke no words of retaliation. He had a holy wrath against the prince of darkness, but He manifested no irritated temper. So the Christian who lives in harmony with God, possessing the sweet attributes of love and mercy, will feel a righteous indignation against sin; but he will not be roused by passion to revile those who revile him. Even in meeting those who are moved by a power from beneath to maintain falsehood, in Christ he will still preserve calmness and self-possession. DA 619

They rather try to "reason it out" than believe what God is trying to tell them...
