The evangelical church is in a 'state of emergency' because of the pandemic and politics, Andy Stanley says - CNN

Andy Stanley, prominent evangelical pastor, comments on state of the church and partisan alignment by various church factions.
what happens when one of the nation’s most famous evangelical leaders declares that “saving America is not the mission of the church?” When he says that loving people takes precedence over loving country? Or when he says that Christianity is not about winning, but “losing on purpose, with a purpose?”[\quote]

Right on cue, despite the fact Andy Stanley has protested outside abortion clinics, the exact people Andy is warning against respond in a way that simply reinforces Andy's point. Case in point, Sean Feucht on twitter. Add to that Sean has throws out an unsupported "groomer" insult though he has not spoken out about the pastors he is politically aligned with who have hidden and protected actual child molesters in their congregations.

The “state of emergency” in America is pastors who refuse to take a stand for biblical truth. They remain silent as millions of babies are slaughtered thru abortion, children are groomed & sexualized & they comply when the govt shuts down the church.

What was he actually saying in this interview? I don't know anything about this man's position on anything contentious from this. What does he mean by 'losing with purpose'? Is that the goal?

Jesus is the model of "losing with purpose." The powers that were--the lawyers, the priests, the Pharisees, the Romans (and Satan)--did not understand why He was willing to lose.

Is a temporary loss which results in a bigger win a loss in the end? The powers at be could not understand Christ's willingness to die because they had no concept of what Christ's example would lead to. A dedicated group of believers who under torture would not abandon their Lord.

That is a theological and historical point. Should Christians willingly lose every engagement with the current culture then?

I like Andy.

A pastor who apparently leans right politically - has even protested against abortion, according to the article above - but with a level head who doesn't seem to want to treat the world outside the church doors as an enemy to fight. Sounds like a good man to have leading a church if you ask me.
