I recently got my first smartphone, after having the same basic flip-phone for 3 years. I'm really impressed! I have found a number of apps with great potential as aids to your prayer life and study.
Divine Office ($19.99) That might seem like a lot for an app, but this is a great tool for getting into the LOTH. It brings up the prayers and readings for all the hours of the day, and there is an option for audio to accompany you. The audio is high quality and I like to use it, especially to hear the psalms and hymns being sung. I haven't run into any issues yet... I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to start praying the hours.
Mp3 Catholic series (Various prices from free to $8.99) I've tried the free "demo" version of "Catholic Teaching" and I bought the full version of "Catholic Courses." These seem to be well worth the cost. For $8.99 I received 70+ hours worth of audio lectures on theology, philosophy, scripture, and the saints. There's got to be more than 70 hours here, but that's my conservative estimate. Right now I'm listening to a course on Thomistic philosophy. It's pretty neat.
Catholic One (Free) This one is loaded with resources. It's got the daily Mass readings, the LOTH (but it uses Universalis, which is not liturgically valid, so I still recommend Divine Office and not using this app for that), the NAB and DR Bibles, a selection of prayers in English and Latin, the Stations of the Cross, and Catholic radio. I mostly like this app for the Bibles and the daily readings. Also, you can't beat free.
I'll be trying more, but that's it for now. Has anyone else tried an app that they'd recommend?
