  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

And now, a question about Easter baskets...

...for adult children. Do you following this tradition with your children into adulthood? What if they aren't practicing Christians (do not attend church and have views that are more secular). This discussion came up in Bible study yesterday, and it was a surprisingly lively debate.

What say you?

I don't have kids of mine own, but I have two sisters that do this practice. One of them both Easter baskets and Bible time with the kids. The other doesn't quite believe in God...yet, I'd like to keep hoping for her.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Easter basket idea, but it becomes wrong when teaching kids about the Bunny instead of Jesus rising again - which is WAY cooler than the Bunny

Easter baskets are only for the kids here and I have down played it this year as it is becoming too much focus on chocolate and not enough on Jesus and our salvation. We don't have the easter bunny in the house either, which can cause trouble at school as I have told my kids that the easter bunny doesn't exist!
I guess its how important the tradition is to the individual when they become adults, my parents stopped buying us eggs when we were teenagers, if we wanted some we bought our own, it wasn't really that big of a deal.

I grew up having Easter Baskets on Easter and they had absolutely no connection with Jesus whatsoever. We went to an Episcopal church that I learned nothing from. Today I saw people buying candy and toys and baskets, but nothing about Jesus. I think most people have taken the emphasis off Jesus' resurrection and focus on the secular. I wish I had grown up in a Christian home where Jesus was celebrated. It would have made a significant difference in my life today.

I can appreciate your comments, imstillstanding. While my late parents were Christian, like their parents, Jesus wasn't necessarily celebrated, going to church was, along with the customs of their denomination. If I knew then, what I know now, I could have saved myself years of worry and bad decisions.

Ive never had an easter basket.
I dont have children but if I did I wouldnt go crazy with chocolate. Its got too much sugar. Theres real eggs instead. I see a lot of 'adult children' buying their own chocolate anyway. If you not careful you end up with diabetes as happened to a girl I knew who was a chocoholic.
