Hi Anastasia! I'm just wondering how you're doing after your horrifying visit to the emergency room.

I was going to send you a private message but I thought everyone else here would like to see how you are and if you're still in pain.

Do you know what the cause of it all was? Appendix? Or are you still waiting for your test results to come back?

Well, we'll all be praying for you!

Are you French Canadian or just a "general" Canadian? I reckon Canada is awesome - I'd love to live there or at least go there on a holiday, except for the 30 hour flight! Eek, I hate planes...

Anyways, let's hope it was nothing serious for Anastasia and that it's her last visit to the hospital for a while.

Actually, I'm Greek-Canadian. lol I know how you feel about planes. The furthest I ever went on one was a 10 hour flight to Athens. But it was worth it.

As far as Canada being awesome goes, I would say it's okay but it's not really my kind of place.

Thank you both for checking up on me and being concerned! I went to the doctor and he said I was fine, thank the Lord. He sent me home with some indigestion medication and said I should be fine. I was so relieved!

Well the indigestion could have been because I had been on a very low calorie diet lately and I had had this burning in the pit of my stomach from all the acid and not as much food. Also, I had been eating a lot of very hot peppers lately, they're my weakness though. I love peppers so hot they make your nose run, so I think maybe that's what did it me.

Unfortunately I have been ordered to stay away from fried foods and chocolate!

Awww, I'm kind of in a similar boat. I've had a few digestive problems over the years so I have a huge list of foods to stay away from and I mean HUGE list...

Doesn't mean I always follow it though...

I look at the list and then I ask myself is there any food that ISN'T on the list?!

Dear Anastasia:

Glad to hear that you are better.

Chilis are very good for the digestive tract.

They helped my husband when he came down with pneumonia because they help to keep the mucus flowing and prevent congestion.

They also have been known to help with the treatment and prevention of ulcers. Perhaps that is why people from Mexico rarely have ulcers.

Chilis are also very high in Vitamin C and Vitamin A. So don't omit those hot chilis -- they are good for you -- unless you are allergic to them. God forbid!

I've never tried chilis. I guess because my family doesn't like the taste, I automatically assume I don't...

Do they taste similar to green/red peppers? If so, ugh!

Dear Matthias:

Yes, chilis do taste similar to red and green peppers as they are in the same deadly night shade family as tomatoes and potatoes. However, if you eat the seeds of a chili pepper - your tongue will literally feel on fire.

Salsa is good on chips, or helps give avocadoes a great taste.

Mmmm, now salsa is something I definitely love, especially as dip for corn chips!

Chanter, are you keen on Indian cuisine? It would have to probably be my favourite type of meal, especially butter chicken.

Elizabeth, there is no way I can give up hot peppers! I always have a huge jar of crisp jalapeno peppers in my fridge.

Matthias, you should try some! Maybe start off with a mild pickled banana pepper or perhaps a very spicey pickle...another weakness!

Anastasia --

I had to sort through earlier threads to understand this one.

As suggested by others, please DO check for any problems, esp. to suspect the gall bladder.

Within the past 2.5 months, I have had four sessions -- with time gaps between each one -- where a rip-roaring pain exploded in my upper abdomen, in the middle of the night, and lasted for several hours each time. I normally handle pain VERY well (i.e. silently) -- (have had four c-sections, two arm surgeries, and live with the "bum" arm and a bad back) -- but these episodes had me punching the floor and screaming for hours.

I don't register any tie-in with spicy foods, which is a blessing. My kids believe that, instead of an esophagus and intestinal system, I feature galvanized steel pipe.

I was thinking the same thing as I read through the posts. I have worked in surgical practices for the past fifteen years and I was thinking gallbladder as well, especially with the history of recent low calorie diet. Low calorie diets have been known to be a precipitating factor in gallbladder disease.

You guys take care of yoursleves!

Dear friends:

I've had a painful gallbladder stone for years, with the same symptoms as Orthodox6 - and it was precipitated by a change to a low fat diet. The first sign I had was a pinching feeling in my upper right quadrant just under the rib. Since the stone is less than 1/4 inch, and my gallbladder is healthy, there is no need for immediate surgery. Now I try to eat almonds, olives or avocadoes daily to keep my system functioning normally.

Recently I discovered Hyrangea root. It has kept me free from pain and the prickly stone maybe gone by now. When I told my GI doctor about it, he said that I shouldn't need to come back as that is apparently the solution. He's heard of several other success stories with Hydrangea root for any kinds of stones: kidney or gallbladder.
