Well, greetings, greetings, everyone. My first post on these forums; hopefully I won't make a fool of myself.

I'm a freshman student now at the University of Colorado at Boulder, just about the most liberal university in the American West outside of California. Coming here from southern Idaho where I lived before is, fortunately, only a mild culture shock since I'd done some reading and was prepared for the concentration of secularism and liberalism.

I have noticed that Christian groups are quite active on campus, however. I plan to attend a Bible study next week.

One thing I did not fully anticipate was the unconcern for decency of speech - everyone I've met so far is, to some degree, a <insert your favorite expletive here> potty mouth. I guess I'll deal with it though.

Well, that was just about it, just wanted to say hi and see if anyone else here is attending CU (anyone? anyone?).

Thanks to everyone for being on this forum!

Hello Keenmaster486,

Welcome to CF!!

I didn't go to CU, but I did attend another state university, so I'm fairly certain that my past experiences there can be said to be analogous to those you're facing now, in many respects.

Don't be surprised that your experience at a secular state university feels like you've just been dropped kicked into a vat of mental and moral sludge. It can feel that way sometimes. And I imagine that a majority of state universities actually are infected by skepticism and disbelief. Some of this is a typical expression of the very purpose of a university--to question, research, experiment, and/or evaluate the modes and methods of human social life.

Other reasons why a state university exudes skepticism may revolve around the fact that state universities often play to the tune of certain non-christian elitist political groups and also serve as a bastion (and a magnet) for liberals, libertines, radicals, and those who are predisposed to knocking over traditional religious outlooks-on-life. With this kind of dominant intellectual climate, it is no wonder that much of the state college campus life elicits a "potty-mouth" social environment, one which the students easily meld into. (I had some professors who thought the occasional "F" word was appropriate for class discussion.)

So, hang in there. Realize that a lot of state universities are reflections of the above. Be wise as you navigate your way through your courses. Get your degree ...

Anyway, I hope your interactions on CF are fruitful and/or interesting.

Peace

Hello Keen; welcome to CF; may the Lord Jesus guide you here; in the world; and through that secular "higher" learning Uni. If one must make a fool of them selves; lets do it for the Lord. The Lord's light shines the brightest in the dark places of the world; so "let your light shine" and "be not conformed by the world; but by the word and Spirit be transformed into His image":

Keep in mind that skepticism is a very healthy state of mind to cultivate. It serves to insulate one from charlatans of every sort. Yes, there are religious charlatans too and some are even Christian.
