Hi OSL,

Have you got a copy of the original writings that Matthew wrote? If not, how do you know that he actually wrote all these things that you claim the KJV includes and other translations don't. Are you basing your idea of evidence just on another translation that seems to have some variances to others? That's not really how one derives the truth of the Scriptures in this comparison.

How do you know that the KJV is correct? There is actually some fairly substantial evidence that the translators of the KJV interjected marginal notes of their source document into the body of the Scriptures.

How do you know the KJV is correct? Let's assume for the sake of this question that it is. Do you also use the Apocrypha in your reading and teaching of the Scriptures? It was included in the first printing of the KJV. Are you as steadfast in your fight to have these writings reinserted into the Scriptures?

How do you know the KJV is correct? Are you merely using it as your foundation base of Scripture and assuming that it is true and correct just on the fact that it's the KJV translation?

Here's my encouragement to you. Find out why God gave unto mankind the Scriptures. Once you determine for yourself why God went to all the trouble of providing mankind the Scriptures, ask yourself, do these issues have any bearing on why God gave mankind His Scriptures? If I do or don't read the passages in question will I not be able to find the way of eternal life? You see, friend, it is my understanding that this is the purpose for which God gave us His Scriptures. That one may find the way to eternal life. That's it!!

As far as whether the KJV or some newer translation honors the proverb that you posted, well, you don't really have a clue do you?

WHY PSALM 12:6,7 IS NOT A PROMISE OF THE INFALLIBLE PRESERVATION OF SCRIPTURE

I have suggested this quiz to a number of people over the years.

About 33 years ago, I sat down with a young woman I was dating, who used a modern translation, and we went over a List of 200 New Testament verses that are omitted or changed in modern translations because of the corrupt manuscripts used to generate them. We did not get all the way through the list before she set her modern translation aside, and held only to the KJV. We celebrate 32 years of marriage TODAY.

Check out this list of 200 Omissions from Modern Versions of the NT that are in the KJV, the Geneva Bible, and even Martin Luther's German Bible (not in English, of course.) Some versions omit as many as 195 of these. Depending on the particular manuscripts used for translating, there are more or less of these omissions.
Some of the older and better ones are only missing around 50 or 60.

The RSV that was given to me as a child is missing almost 190 of these. My wife's NASV was missing more than 180, but we never got so far as that when we were checking it!

There has been a deterioration in the quality of preaching and an introduction of false doctrines that accompanied the proliferation of these new modern versions..

I read your OP again, and cannot see where you said, "KJV Only." I stated that the KJV, Geneva and others would be good to compare. I don't speak German, but Luther's German NT is probably the best for those who do.

Many years ago, I sought a good Bible, and settled on the KJV. A friend saw it, and said, "You had better be prepared... If you are going to use that Bible, you will find that attacks will be coming your way. Also, you are going to be surprised where those attacks come from."

I asked him, "What do you mean by that?" He simply stated, "You'll see. It won't take very long, either!" Sure enough, I carried it to Church a few days later, and the Youth Bible Study Class had hardly started when the Preacher's Wife (Leading the Bible study,) had to comment, "You don't need to use that version of the Bible!" She later got very upset by a phrase used in a scripture that we were studying. (II Samuel 5:24)

If you don't mind the non-standardized spelling, you may like the Geneva Bible. I thought of buying an original 10 years ago, and today, it would be worth about twice what it would have cost then. This was the Bible used by the Pilgrims coming to America 400 years ago, and by great preachers like John Bunyan, Thomas Boston, Richard Baxter, etc., and their books have been a constant source of spiritual enlightenment to my soul.

I'm not about to put words in your mouth, OurSimpleLife. Your OP states what it states.

Stating that there is no good modern version is a separate postition to being "KJV Only." Only using the KJV is not even what is attacked as a "KJV Only" stance. I do not waste time looking scriptures up in the Geneva Bible, except in the rare occasion that I think it may shed a little light that I seek.

Also, simply because there were many manuscripts rejected as corrupt, that the shear number (or the physical condition) of them does not lend to their credibility, and looking at the list of verses that are omitted from modern versions, it is easy to say the KJV is God's word. This is not the same as saying there are no other Bible versions that are God's word. Likewise, saying that MODERN versions are corrupt does not say that there aren't old Bibles that are not corrupt.
