  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

JB Pritzker on SNAP. I haven't seen collaboration for this claim, but sad if true. Unused benefits are viewed as unneeded benefits, but if someone had managed to hold some back in anticipation of the shutdown, they won't have access to them.

This unfortunate situation is a lesson for all because it’s bigger than SNAP. It’s dangerous to put yourself in the enemy’s hands and expect him to do the right thing. We don’t own the programs, businesses, schools, banks, etc. We need to have more conversations about financial autonomy. We’re too dependent society wise on entities that don’t have our best interests at heart.

It’s no longer a question of self-sufficiency but the necessity of living and thinking differently. Which applies in many areas including our work, home, food, community, etc. The way forward is by going back to simpler times with greater involvement and mutual support. We can’t assume a certain end anymore because things are changing fast.

I saw this photo earlier and posted it. The campaign appeared in America and the UK. Maybe it’s me. But how many ways does someone need to show you you’re unimportant before you accept they’re not kidding?

They changed the title of the article but not the url.

Editor's note: This article previously reported on some videos that appear to have been generated by AI without noting that. This has been corrected.

That's pretty mild given the magnitude of the changes made in the article.

The archived original includes some details on some of the avenues by which the video went viral.

Fox News contributor Brett Cooper discussed the woman’s comments on her YouTube channel, calling the video "insane" before commenting, "That is [her] responsibility… It is not [the] American taxpayers fault that you have seven baby daddies who will not step up and help you pay the grocery bills."

Honestly, the fact that you would believe a statement like this is authentic tells us a lot about the bubble you live in:

"I have seven different baby daddies and none of ‘em no good for me," she said.

How can you provide proof on a tax form that you financially assisted your neighbor in order to receive a tax deduction?
I shouldnt need to. If we are going to ask people to help others we have to allow people to help others. Its interesting to note that the hue and cry is we need to help. Yet rhe ONLY way to help is through charities which keep a.LOT of money for the organization or through taxes which ALSO keep.a ton of money with only a portion going to the needy. If Americans were allotted a certain dollar amount of being able to donate and help others without having to prove it would cause a lot of people to actually fet involved because it would be more peraonal to them. I mean me helping my poor neighbor with buying groceries is far more satisfying than paying out taxes to help my neighbor. That personal contact is huge. Of course you could still give to charities if you wanted, but having a choice would probably cauae more people to help each other.

Some retailers would like to help, but that's illegal.

(While I understand the fundamental fairness that's the issue here -- this would certainly be one way to get SNAP money to go further, in general. Kinda like having 'reduced lunch' at school.)
