CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do they reproduce? And how on Earth would an animal survive without ever having to change direction?

You did not notice the amazing mechanical devices built by plastic conduit pipes? It seems that you are not involved with anything mechanical otherwise you would be amazed. Perhaps you find it boring like some people find opera boring. Well each to his own. As a designer myself I could not help but be amazed!So...this video was basically about this guy reinventing the wheel, as he put it.

I'm amazed by what he built. I'd just be even more amazed if he'd fund some way of getting them to self-replicate. Or barring that, a way to change direction would be nice.

You are missing the point; The aim is not self replication. It is about mechanics! The designer does not deem his creations to be "living" things in as much as you do not consider an aeroplane "alive" because you refer to it as "She"; Like "She is a beautiful bird and a pleasure to fly"!

He was not being literal! Affinity to his creations makes him refer to them as living beasts. But stop for a moment and forget and marvel at the simplicity of these mechanical creations!
