Am I the only one?

Hey I'm a newbie. I'm 23 and am currently wondering if I am the only one who finds most 'pop culture' shallow and vain, and isn't into most of the latest movies, music or TV shows because they're usually immoral or demonic. I know this is one heck of a way to start out as a new person in a forum, but this is a Q that's really burning away in me and I just HAVE to ask. Thanks and God bless.

Really? That's wonderful. Thanks for the welcome. I just found out that this guy I like from church has some very different ideas and approaches to life than I do....so I am kinda discouraged. I feel like the rose in the chamomile patch! haha I listen to 99% Christian music, most of which is praise and worship. I watch 95% old classic movies and TV shows, the other 5% being educational and reality shows. So yeah I feel like a weirdo. But thanks for the encouragement

I find most pop culture to be pretty pretentious and vein. It's like they preach tolerance(which by now makes me gag when i hear it used in the media), then go off and brag about how awesome they are, or how love is a fools game and you gotta play to win,etc... I'm sorry but i can't really tolerate a lot of that crap.

I find it amusing, and disheartening at the same time. This what a lot of people are into? Yikes =\

Sounds like me. I often feel very left out because my family likes to watch a lot of things that I don't agree with. They all gather to watch TV and I choose to leave the room. It's kind of lonely, I suppose.

AMEN @pondering and wandering lol I'm finding myself craving more praise and worship, more Bible reading, and more teaching that's Biblical. While everyone else (including Christian friends) are worrying about the season finale of 'Lost', or what's gonna happen next week on 'Glee', I'm like "I don't give a hoot...it's all garbage. Gimme my Bible and no one gets hurt!" lol

VERY lonely, sister. My mom and I both have the same values on TV or movies so that's good, but its hard to find anyone in my age group that does.

Hey, this is not something to compromise on! Can't emphasize that enough, over and over in Scripture it tells us this. Our robes of righteousness keep us covered, so NO sin can get in. Our breastplate of righteousness (as one very detailed picture) cleanses us internally, heart and mind. Of course the blood of Jesus actually does this ...

Maybe you could try searching for some online friends who share your taste in music and TV. You're bound to meet many like-minded people here.

I have tried to find people who think the same way, but it didn't work too well. I've been a member of another Christian forum for many years, and alot of the ppl I've met there aren't too serious. And the ones that are, are pretty old, or they're parents so they don't get to talk to me very often. Hopefully things are different here

You're entitled to your own opinion. But let me tell you, sexual immorality and dirty jokes are quite commonplace in music, TV shows and movies nowdays, hence why I dub most of it immoral. I also used the word demonic in reference to movies like The Lightning Thief, Avatar, The Last Airbender, etc. because anyone with the Holy Spirit's discernment can tell that they're spiritually dark. Spiritual darkness = demonic. Simple enough.

I do agree with you on some things in pop culture. They are low brow and uninteresting. Which is fine with me, it just leaves me more time to spend with the Lord, instead of following the local Subway on Twitter lol

I'm not one easily offended so I don't know if I would call anything demonic, but I don't find much value in popular music or TV programs. There have been some good movies recently though. Throughout the week I almost exclusively watch the news and on the weekends during those stupid documentary reruns I watch a lot of History, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, etc. Of course all that is subject to change in a few weeks when football season starts.

I find most pop music and culture boring and mindless. I think we should choose music and clothes because we like them. I don't care what others think, I am an individual. God made me intellegent not a mindless clone of every other guy out there.
