Am I missing something?

I'm in the midst of an arguement over in GA. I believe I have stated my case as clearly as possible...but either I'm missing something or my "opponent" is.

I absolutely hate where the thread is going. Not because of the topic but because of what is unsaid. If I am reading the posts correctly, and it's possible I'm reading to much into them, the real question being asked is "How dare God do this to us?". I have no gentle way of answering.

10Not only that, but Rebekah's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. 11Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God's purpose in election might stand: 12not by works but by him who calls—she was told, "The older will serve the younger."[d] 13Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."[e]

14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses,
"I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."[f] 16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."[g] 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[h] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— 24even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? 25As he says in Hosea:
"I will call them 'my people' who are not my people;
and I will call her 'my loved one' who is not my loved one,"[i] 26and,

There is no gentle answer and there should not be one. They are the offenders, the haters of God, the wicked, deceitful, and bloody ones who have turned aside from the law and pursued their own devices. Who are they to reply against? Who are they to accuse God of injustice when their very existence is a violation of God's justice? Do not shirk from the biblical response. Tell them the truth! Tell them they are wicked sinners in need of forgiveness! If it is their appointed hour, the Holy Spirit will move to replace their hearts of stone with hearts of flesh. Else, if they respond not, then your head is clean, for you have proclaimed the word of God.

Soli Deo Gloria

Alright...I'm done. It's not as if SS hasn't put this arguement forth before. Just a spin and he refuses to explain himself.

Thanks for stepping in JJB.

Any commentary or criticism would be appreciated. PM me if needed.

Hope springs eternal. ;) The fact he asked that question I had hopes that he has been challenged thru other threads, but alas apparently that is not so....

Psalm 11:5
The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates.

The Lord created us. Thus He has all power over us. Everyone always wants to describe God as an all-loving parent. But, are parents really all-loving to the extent that they just excuse sin or disobedience? If they are biblical parents then they do not. God is the same way. He has set down His law in the 10 Commandments and expects men (children?) to obey it. When they do not, He has the right and the duty (to His justice) to punish them. He would not be God if He didn't punish the wicked! To take away the wrath and justice of God is to un-god God! He has the right to do as He wills. Who is mere man, mere worms, to question the God of the Universe?

Apparently not. Bah...I am weak and I can't let the arguement go.

It is blazingly obvious I need to spend more time in the Word. Talk to you all in a while.

.

You sound like me! I always like to come back with an answer and it it often everything I can do to keep from saying "DUH! How can you not understand this when the Bible says it directly!!!" But, that is very unloving of me, is it not? So, I try to refrain from this approach (which wouldn't make listening to me very appealing, I suppose). But, don't give up on the person yet. . .I almost gave up speaking to someone on CF not long ago-the person was even on my ignore list for a little while. But then, curiosity got the better of me and I just had to read what that person had posted and then answer the post. . .but anyway, I'm good friends with that person now. You never know what the Lord might have in store!

I'm trying Erin. I "lowered the boom" as best I could. The frightening thing is that I'm beginning to believe this poor man honestly doesn't have a clue. :(

I'm going to send him a PM with one last try and leave it there. At least until the next thread.
