Am I Jewish?

Is there anyway to find out if Im a Jew or not? it would be cool if I was I would probally read the OT more. the Jews are still Gods choosen people right?

Why would this make you any more or less Christian if your ancestors were decendants of Abraham? Real Galatians 3. All believers have been adopted into God's family. We are all part of His chosen people.

Romans is another good book to read about the Gentiles and Jews. Jews will not hold any higher place than the Gentiles in the new Kingdom.

You are Jewish if you are born in Jerusalem or have Jewish ancestry OR you can be Jewish by religious belief.
The two aren't necessarily the same thing.

oh and ALL believers are God's Chosen People.

You can also be Jewish if you are born in Israel, not just Jerusalem.

Only God sees the heart, and a true Jew is one of the heart. All people have the opportunity to come and be grafted into the root of Abraham through Jesus, God's Son and Messiah to all men.

Romans 2:28 (LIV) For you are not real Jews just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the Jewish initiation ceremony of circumcision.
29 No, a real Jew is anyone whose heart is right with God. For God is not actually looking for for those who cut their bodies in actual body circumcision, but He is looking for those with changed hearts and minds. Whoever has that kind of change in his life will get praise from God, even if not from you.

You dont know if you were brought up Jewish? You could technically be any religion you want to be, as long as you believe the doctrine

This is true. If your mother is Jewish then you are Jewish.

As far as reading the OT more. . . I highly reccommed that either way. Contrary to many Christian church teaching's, Jesus did not destroy any of the law. He came to fulfill it. In my opinion, the NT back's up everything God said in the OT. And I don't think we can adaquately understand what Jesus did in the NT without knowing the Old. And old does not mean abolished.

There are many (too many to easily number) foreshadows of Christ in the OT.

The main thing though to remember you can be culturally a Jewish person, but be a disciple of Christ. I was technically born Jewish, since my mother was but I never embraced Judiasim as a religion. But I am still proud of my heritage and I can still be even as an avid Christian. It works the same way in Christian families, just because you were born into a Christian family does not make you are Christian, that only comes by your personal proclamation. In fact it is interesting to note that the word Christian is very seldomly used in the NT. Early followers of the time called themselves Jesus' disciples, meaning that they strove to imitate him in every way. In fact, early Christians did not consider themselves to be totally separate from being Jewish, it was more like a sect that sprang out from it. The word 'disciple' appears about 300 times in the NT compared to the word "Christian' being used about 30 times.I like to liken myself to a disciple of Christ! I hope this helps. God bless.
