• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone:

I haven't been in here in a long time. Probably 6 months or so because I've been feeling so well. Haven't been cycling at all. Last night I couldn't sleep at all... now that is very troubling to me. That is usually a sign that I'm hypo although there were days before bipolar that I couldn't sleep. So maybe you could help me make sense of it.

I'll call my pdoc on Monday to talk to him but I thought I'd talk to you about it now for ideas.

The reason I couldn't sleep is that I took a 4 hour nap in the evening and then with the heat I couldn't get to sleep. My thoughts didn't seem to be zinging, I was just having a good ol' day dream that I didn't want to finish to go to sleep. So after a while I got up and played on the compy (I know you're not supposed to do that...I shoulda read the bible but the compy was there and I got sucked in). I feel tired today and not like I want to tackle the world like how I feel when I'm hypo.

Any thoughts? I don't want to be fooling myself. I'm not the kind that does that though. I'm usually pretty straight up with myself. But if you think of any questions that will help me determine if I'm hypo that would be great.

In Him,
Connie

Hi Connie,

I"m glad you've been feeling so good lately. On the one hand you are right to pay attention to things like that. But on the otherhand it may be a fluke. Doesn't sound like you are racy or have much of the other symptoms. I say just keep and eye on it and see if it continues. If not take a deep breathe and just think you had a bad night.

I do the same thing. I am always mindful sometimes it drives me crazy cuz i can't just think maybe i had a bad night.

Just my thoughts...but do keep a watchful eye.

Thanks Angel and Berry:

I went to bed yesterday at 5:00 and didn't get up until this morning at 8:00...d'oh. Didn't get to give hubby breakfast in bed. But that sort of answers my question. If I can sleep that long I'm definitely not hypo . That is good news.

I've been on a new food regiment for my IBS (Irritated Bowel Syndrome), basically the naturopath told me to eliminate wheat, soy, dairy, yeast, coffee, tea, chocolate, spinach, turnips, meat/tomato combinations and meat/potato combinations and I did. It eliminated my IBS and I was extremely happy but then my hubby noticed that I haven't had a depression or hypo since January when usually I go up or down every 3 weeks. My pdoc is cautiously optimistic and we are planning a reduction of my meds and a return to work (after 7 years of being off). The naturopath said that this is the first time he's been able to help a bipolar so I'm guessing that a food regime is not going to help most bipolars but it helped me. I wish I could tell you all I had a foolproof cure but I think I sorta lucked into what worked for me. But a good naturopath is a good person to have in your medical arsenal.

In Him,
Connie

A naturopath is a person (sometimes they are doctors but not often) that specializes in homeopathic remedies and other natural cures. A homeopathic remedy is a small dose (teeny tiny pills) that you put under your tongue that solve medical problems that you have in your life. Often they are made from microdoses of poisons (weird eh). My naturopath also does vega testing, which is food testing to see which foods you are intolerant to and thus which foods you should avoid. When a naturopath is good at it you get excellent results but when they are not good at it (as many aren't) you get poor results.

Only go to a naturopath that has been recommended to you by a trusted source as they are prone to snake-oil-salesman-itis.

In Him,

Connie
