I just told my sister that I am bulimic and she said I was an idiot for being that. Now i don't know how to feel

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your sister in ignorant. Bulimia is a disease. It is used as a coping mechanism for people in emotional pain.
Are you in treatment? I highly recommend it. I am also bulimic.

I have not had any treatment yet - I have to get an appointment to see my psychiatrist

She mustn't be bulemic ... i don't mean that it's funny, but she clearly doesn't understand, or her reaction would have been different. You are not an idiot don't listen to the negative remarks that drag you down, nothing from God rips a person in any way that wont do anything but help them. Really your not an idiot, you are your own judge of that. Only God knows what truelly lies in your heart, and i think you are very brave and couragous for expressing yourself and asking for help for your problem. Not everyone dares to do just that. Therefore be happy and be yourself, I would love to have a sister like you , and in faith we are just that , now if you don't feel you are getting the support that you need, you can always come here and talk talk talk about it. Honey honestly guys like girls not skeletons. I love you for who you are not for how you look. You should chisel yourself from a rough diamond into a beautifull shaped diamond personality that you want to be. You should stop letting yourself be influenced by what others tell about you, and start defining who you want to be yourself. It's hard due to all the pressure but it's part of building up your own personality.
