  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

One thing that I can't quite understand is why my brothers and sisters in Christ aren't giving me their support.

I was just recently in a debate in the General Apologetics forum, with an atheist who is trying to say that it is more logical that the universe is uncreated than it is to believe that God is uncreated. Here is the link: http://www.christianforums.com/t2264221-it-makes-no-sense.html

The debate starts at post 39 between me and Beastt. But the real issue that he tried to use against me as his so-believed KO punch, are his irrelevant questions that I gave a response to in post 165.

Throughout the debate, fellow atheists of his would jump in and encourage him on, and even those who are not atheists did the same thing. And I ask, where are my brothers and sisters in Christ?

Why do atheists and non-Christians stick together and support each other and Christians don't?

It is really sad. I've been told that the reason why Christians aren't supporting me is because they disagree with me. Is this true?

It isn't you. There are people on this forum that are flying the christian flag who are actually not christians. They are trying to get Christians to follow them. There are some Chrisitians who are that liberal but not many in my experience.

Personally, if I were to participate in those debates, I would go with logic and reason to the best of my ability. There's no way I could make others believe through philosophy and argument what I've myself have come to believe through experience.

I generally think that type of debate should be avoided, esp. if the intention is to make believers of people. Personally my life is much much calmer after I threw all that kind of thinking out of my head and life.

Firstly people are entitled to their oppinion whether you agree with that oppinion or not as are you entitled to say what you think. However there are rules in this forum and if you are unhappy with any post you have the facility to report it. When you go to report a post these rules will be displayed. For further information speak to a moderator.

Unfortunately there are those on many boards on the internet who will use it to poke fun at people or just cause a nuisance and responding to them is just what they want. I generally ignore such individuals.

hello,

At times I go to GA because a thread catches my attention. But GA is not my main concern here. I like the outreach and healing places more. There is a big difference on the out look of individuals that post in to each place. Also, I don't like to hoop into a thread that is beyond 45 post...it can be a long time for me to engage the discuss from where it started to where it is...I have very limited amount of time to prepare and post stuff. I try to stick by my brothers and sisters. Still, almost all the time with GA you have to agree to disagree because of the: Oh..I don't believe in good and evil, oh...I don't believe in God...Oh...I don't believe that particular action is evil...etc. People believe that they are the final authority over a great deal of things....

And I just can't stand the idea of how do they believe they have rational (logical)thought if we came from chaos. Chaos is only chaotic. To think that randomly things happen that result in creation, sustain order, thought,...each of the things they hold dear it is things they control and/or create.

Once in a blue-moon I will go into the GA to see what's going on. A topic may catch my eye and I may respond to it. Many of the threads that are made by non-believers are just a net to catch believers in. Then they hoist us up and put us on display to show who caught the biggest fish. To some, we're merely a side-show. When I first came onto this site, I prayed that I may plant a seed of faith in someone. Maybe I have...who knows but God. Most of the regular athiest posters are here just to poke fun. They say they respect christians but I personally feel like that's a load of bologne. I'm not saying that all athiests do that, but there those certain ones that do it and I'm sure you can name a few off the top of your head also. Would these same people act like this if we met face to face...who knows, but I sincerely doubt it.

I choose not to go over there mainly for my self-control. I tend to get extremely aggravated and just plain mean when I receive a comment meant for attack, not for discussing. I would lose my control, have my post deleted by a moderator, and look like a total fool for doing so. I know what I can handle and can't handle. It's not that I don't have the knowledge of what I'm discussing with them. My wisdom comes from God and not of my own. But I will not lose my self-control for the sake of gratifying my own desire of "getting back at them". I like to stick with questions by non-christians area, because most of the time...not always...someone is truly trying to find answers or to discuss our faith with them.

It is a smoke screen. Often, they play off each of the arguements but try and stop us from likewise playing off of them. It was written by our deeds (not theology) the pagans and non-believers will know the image of God. It is hard to show anyone deeds online, but what they can see us comforting the burdened. That is why I spend my time on outreach stuff. I spent hundreds of post trying to testify to people on GA, but sometimes you have to step make from it. I am like to step in state some truths and detail it out more with anyone bits then if it continues then I will go further. If it is not leading people to faith and they block stuff...like beastt, MQRT?, and others do then I let go of the debate. (sometimes I get hot under the collar like Lamb). I have to remember self control....

You find less and less Christians in GA, because of a number of reasons.

1 is the pearls before swine logic....Why talk with someone who mocks?
2 is exactly you're complaint... usually little backing. This is not because Christians are weak, however, but their main goal is not to tear apart God, but to edify other brothers and sisters.
3 is the sensitivity to being mocked. Myself, it's like water of a ducks back. Nothing they can say about me on a personal level can faze me... If it's untrue, it's untrue. If it's true, Well, Christ thinks I'm worth it anyways.
4 would be because they play by their own rules. You engage them in logical discussion, but they won't even agree to terms. They accuse us of the same things they do themselves, shifting goalposts, arguing from incredulity, and general intellectual snobbery.

I'm sorry if you don't feel like you've been backed... I have debated with beasst before, and many others. Myself, I will continue to do so. I do think you and I have argued for our faith on the same thread at least once in the past.

keep, and share the faith!

I have just remember that this kind of thing happens a lot outside of CF (a world outside of CF, NO!). Often, people try to back Christian's into a corner while other Christains remain silent. We have many excusses why we don't show for them...but instead of being the punching bag that people think they can beat on and walk off...we need to do something...I will stand united with my brother.

I have to toss two more of my cents in. (I'll be broke soon at this rate.)

We HAVE to say something. You don't have to be a professor of apologetics. You don't have to be versed in the scriptures in 34 different translations.

But when somebody makes a catagorically false statement, we have to at least put the truth on the table. You can't convince them of the truth. Only God can do that work, as he did it with each of us. But we MUST not let lies be spread, without anything being said about it. (This does not mean that I think people should go of to GA and pick a fight.) What I mean by that is, if someone makes a statement like "all paths lead to heaven, no matter what religion" or something of the like, you have to present the truth. you don't have to be very eloquent about it. "That's very wrong" is good enough.

I like your passion. We do stand for the truth when called to. When we aren't called to then don't. We know by pray and listening to God. If someone states lies, God's image is going to ok after his lie is done. Therefore, we don't have step into each and every thread. God has many people to do many things for him. Sometimes we have to comfort the tired Christian who keeps fighting those battles. Beastt has been repeating the samething over and over again. I am saying that not to discourage you; however, we have to be prayful to know when to speak, listen, ask questions, and leave. Shalom.

Don't get me wrong. I believe that on a forum such as this, ministering to other believers is of utmost importance. Thank God for the medics behind the lines, no?

did you mean discourage though?

The problem however, is that we can't argue the truth into them. Faith is a gift from God. And if they aren't willing to accept it, they won't believe you, no matter how logical your arguments are.

And there are just certain people, like Beastt for example, that are always right in their opinion, and they are not open to any other view but that which concurs with their own. Debating with people like this, as I've seen, is useless.
