• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello.
I've always thought this, and I just want to truly know if the Lord is happy about me..

I know that as a human, I'm a sinner, but I just do things that make me feel sinful and a disgrace to God. I try to get help from the Lord from doing acts, such as cursing, wrath, and etc.. But it never works and I continue to do the same bad acts. I try myself to become a better person for the Lord so I can make him happy (sorry if that sounds weird, I'm a newly converted Christian, and I'm still learning).

I just want to know why my prayers aren't being answered and if I'm a good person to Lord. I want to truly acknowledge Jesus Christ and do what the Lord considers right, even if im a sinner, like everybody else.

Again, I apologize deeply if the thread seemed odd or not very "Christian like". I'm trying to get help and I'm learning more about the Lord, the Bible, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. It is greatly appreciated

That's a difficult question to answer because all humans do bad things at many points in their lives, and all sin is equal in the eyes of God (though I personally question how cursing can be just as bad as, say, drink-driving at 90mph on the wrong side of the road, smashing into an elderly pensioner and then leaving the scene for them to die, as I read in the newspaper today).

I'm likely not the best person to give advice, and I can't answer for God. What came to mind while reading your post is that the Lord accepts us and loves us for who we are. We don't need to be perfect to be loved by Him.

I'd say, pray to God and ask Him your concerns. I wish you luck.

hi. you are doing right in being who you are.. god does not ask us to be different than who we are. i think what is tripping you up is you are judging yourself.. we all do.. but try to be present.. be aware that this is the only real moment; don't judge yourself or your thoughts.. use wisdom as it comes, and grow in love for yourself and for others.. we can mess up 1000 times a day..and we're still pure.. god doesn't judge us.. that's what the fall was.. we judged god and then judged others.. god came not to judge...jesus said, i came not to judge..

love yourself and be easy on yourself.. you are a beautiful work in progress.. we all are.. precious and well loved.. take care.

First, since you mentioned that you are a newly converted believer: welcome to the faith :)

One thing that it sounds like you've come to understand is that as a believer, you now have the Holy Spirit as a helper inside of you. Part of His function is to convict you of the mistakes or sins you make, and you sound well aware of that. But the Bible also says that another part of His 'job' is to aid our prayers, to take our imperfect prayers and the things we ask for and how we request them and make them better for when they reach God (Romans 88:26_27). So without spending a ton of time on that thought, I hope that knowing that you are being helped in that regard brings some comfort on the question of your prayers. You have help. As far as why they aren't being answered, I don't know. It may be that the request isn't correct, might be that the timing is not yet right for an answer. I don't know your request but I do believe that you should continue praying regardless. Search the Bible for passages on prayer and see if that does not change your approach. But don't stop praying.

As far as the actions that you do but don't wish to do, it is a struggle all believers face at some time, some more than others and some longer than others. Everyone has things they need to work on and some of these things seem worse than other things, but we all face struggles of sin. In the Bible, Paul talks about his fight with himself and how he would do the things he didn't want to and NOT do things he wanted to do or things that were right. But very often he also talks about how in the eyes of God, we are presented as washed clean by Jesus' sacrifice and that God does not look at us and see our sins but instead He sees His children.

So I guess my points are 1) don't stop struggling with your sins, because we are indeed called to shake ourselves clean of our bad habits, 2) don't be discouraged when you struggle with these things because you are forgiven and loved, 3) don't stop praying even when it doesn't seem as though you are getting an answer. He is faithful and He will answer in some manner.

Don't worry, I struggled with the very same issue :)

First of all, you need to realize that you can never be sinless in the eyes of the Father through your actions alone Romans 3:23

But that doesnt mean He stops loving you. In fact, quite the opposite: God loves you so much that He's given you His only Son to wash your sins away! Romans 3:24

As the poster above mentioned, you also seem to be aware of the Holy Spirit.

There are probably two sides of your guilt right now: the side that's telling you negative things (how bad a person you are, how God doesn't love you, etc. ) and another side that's telling you positive things (it's okay, just get down on your knees and pray, don't be afraid to talk to God about it). Listen to the positive side, that's the Holy Spirit! John 14:16 :)

Also, make sure to always take time to read and understand Scripture to strengthen yourself. Think of Scripture as bread and water for the Holy Spirit to grow stronger and stronger in you. Because of the Holy Spirit's influence, you will start to see yourself sinning less and less Galatians 5:22

The salvation Jesus offers us deals with our unworthiness, totally. He makes Himself available as a gift (nothing wecan ever do will suffice to make us 'perfect enough'). We must learn to live accepting that gift, not out of an "Am I good enough yet" way of thinking.

Paganism is about doing enough to avoid the displeasure of the gods that they act favourably towards us. The Gospel is all about what Jesus has done to make that possible, and he gifts that to us. Live out of that reality.

Dear BellaTheBlueJay. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus gives us good advice: " The first and great Commandment is:
" Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: love thy neighbour as thyself." ( neighbour is all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends) In verse 40 we are told: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7: 7-10: tells us: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." We keep asking for Love and Joy, then thank God and share all love and joy with our neighbour. God will see our loving efforts, and God will bless us. The Holy Spirit will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour will lead us all the way: JESUS IS THE WAY. We might forget some time, but then we ask God to forgive us, and carry on loving and caring.
The Bible tells us " Repent and be Born Again," and we give up our selfish and unloving wishes and wants, and just carry on loving, caring, and being friendly to all around us. Love is very catching, and a Christian`s weapon is love,
with love we will overcome all envy and bad behaviour. Let love guide you, and remember that you will never be a bad person. Satan and his followers will run away from all love and kindness, Love will drive Satan away.
I say this with love, BellaTheBlueJay. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

It can be hard for any Christian to totally rid yourself of all sins. In regard to wrath, and cursing. These are emotions that rise up in us when we feel hurt, or abused. We often feel justified to get angry. I am married, and used to get very angry with my wife, still do occasionally. But I have learned over time to surrender the feelings to God, when I feel myself getting angry I tell myself "this will just hurt them, don't do it", and I push the feeling away, let it subside. Compared to a few years ago my wrath has greatly improved. Even if I feel "justified to be angry", I no longer do it, I just let it slide.

I just want to know why my prayers aren't being answered and if I'm a good person to Lord. I want to truly acknowledge Jesus Christ and do what the Lord considers right, even if im a sinner, like everybody else.

What prayers specifically are not being answered. We all have unanswered prayers.

Again, I apologize deeply if the thread seemed odd or not very "Christian like". I'm trying to get help and I'm learning more about the Lord, the Bible, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. It is greatly appreciated

No it is good to seek advise. The bible says:

Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

To finish, you said:

I just want to truly know if the Lord is happy about me..

Have a read of the following passage from the bible:

Luk 10:38-42 Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord's feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. But the Lord answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Super serious bible message to come. :) Note the two people, Martha she wanted to serve Jesus through actions of servant hood, meeting His needs. She was not wrong to do that, it is good to want to meet others needs. But Mary choose to rather sit before Jesus and spend time with Him, to learn from Him. I would say never neglect to serve others or serve God, but realize the most important thing to do is spend time with Jesus, to get to know His will, and heart.

I am not saying just don't worry about sin, and sin like crazy, and be God's friend. Rather I am saying God is not looking for your perfect servant hood, he is looking for you to draw close to Him.

You are already drawing near to God, and for that He would be pleased.
