Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Malachi 3 and Psalm 119:89-91
Malachi 3:6 (NIV) "I the LORD do not change."
Throughout the pages of the Bible, God says to us again and again, "Trust Me, dear child, trust Me." As His children and followers, we have put our eternal destiny in His hands. We believe that He is in control of all things, and that He is faithful in keeping His promises to us (Psalm 119:89-91). Yet it is when our trust sways and we try to take life into our own hands that we get ourselves in trouble.
Writing on the unchanging, absolute nature of God, preacher James packers says, "What [God] does in time, he planned from eternity. And all that he planned in eternity, he carries out in time. And all that he has in his Word committed himself to do, will infallibly be done. Thus we read of the "unchangeable character of his purpose" to bring believers into full enjoyment of their promised inheritance, and of the immutable oath by which he confirmed his counsel to Abraham, the archetypal believer, both for Abraham's own assurance and also for others (Heb. 6:17-19). So it is with all God's announced intentions. They do not change. No part of his eternal plan changes."
What does all this mean? It simply means that we can trust God with the little things and large things of life. Because He does not change, He will always be there to guide us and give us His unconditional love. Notice the words of the apostle James: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (1:17). Here James reminds us that, because the Lord never changes, we can trust His word, have no fear that He will leave or forsake us, and experience His peace that comes from knowing He is our secure foundation.
Life is full of changes. However, we can live with peace in our spiritual lives when we know that the God we dedicate our life to never changes. Faith Lesson: When you encounter one of life's many changes, be sure to place your trust in the unchanging God.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
