Alternative Relgions.

  1. I myself at one point and time was Pagan, and so was my aunt and some of my friends. It is not a cult, nor evil. Paganism is a group of faiths that express the ancestral traditions of Europe including Greek, Gaelic, Baltic and Nordic cultures as well as drawing on indigenous religions and movements such as feminism and environmentalism. These faiths have grown in popularity greatly during the last hundred years. The growth coincides with a decline in Christianity in Europe, and the increase in knowledge of past and distant cultures.
The name 'Europe', (herself a character in Greek myth), replaced 'Christendom' in the mid-18th century. Influenced by the expansion of trade and colonies an awareness and interest in other cultures and spiritualities grew. This new age of reason during the 17th and 18th Centuries became known as the Enlightenment.
....Overall, its a Nature based religion that was around long, long before Christianity came into play. Its a Polytheistic way of believing. *Many gods and godesses* And they do not worship the *Devil*. They give thanks to a few Lords and Ladies who are very peaceful. There is a God in the shape of a Half man, half goat.
Pan - Greek Nature God . Also, Pantheism is a religion that kindles a sunbright
spiritual relationship with Nature. Not evil. The Earth, Mother.

I Just wanted to clarify all of these misunderstandings about "witches" , otherwise known as pagans. Are honestly thousands of years of misunderstandings. Judge others not. Let God be the only Judge. Take care.

  1. So let their children starve! Let the sword pour out their blood! Let their wives become widows without any children! Let their old men die in a plague, and let their young men be killed in battle! Let screaming be heard from their homes as warriors come suddenly upon them. For they have dug a pit for me, and they have hidden traps along my path. (Jeremiah 18:21-22 NLT)
  2. But you, draw near, you sons of a sorceress, adulterous, wanton race! Of whom do you make sport, at whom do you open wide your mouth, and put out your tongue? Are you not a rebellious children, a worthless race;" (Isaiah 57:3-4 NAB)
  3. While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: "Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother's home. Suddenly, a powerful wind [sent by God] swept in from the desert and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you." (Job 1:18-19 NLT)
  4. Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering. (1 Corinthians 11:14-15 NAS)
  5. (P.S. Every painting of Jesus that I have seen has him with long hair.)

I dont understand these. How can a great Lord want to kill children and find women to be lower? All those with replies and comments, let me know. Im interested in unbiast opinions.
Because the bible was written by men, not by god. divinely inspired, yes, IMO the silly stories in the OT are in my opinion pure Myth based possibly off of factual events. (example, local flood that is attributed to god and thought to be had world over...there was a wonderful scientific explanation recently on discovery channel for what they believed the 10 plagues actually were caused from) a truly loving god would never kill babies like that it is utterly ridiculous. i think the writers got carried away (they are human after all) and in the midst of writing down all of these divine secrets, they realized the power they wielded and infected it with their own mortal bigoted thoughts.

DarwinFish. . .Christainity triumphed and is still spreading in the developing world because it did two things:

1.De-divinitized the world.

2.Internalized law.

Paganism views the world as divine. Spirits and ogres peek out and grin from every rock. Pagan socities go nowhere because of this.

Far as the "enlightment" is concerned, it has not been very "enlightened" has it?

A slew of secular, gnostic religions--from fascism to communism--have replaced the tolerance and uncertainty of Christianity with a bloodless, analytical Utilitarianism which has crushed tens of millions.

ashibaka...the Japanese were excellent metallurgists too. But it was on the level of an art and a craft--not science as a thing apart. Same in India. They produced Damascus steel--the finest in the world. But they didn't know why they were able to do it. In 1200 AD, the Chinese were drilling natural gas wells hundreds of feet deep, capturing the gas in bags and using it for lightning.

But in all these cultures, science was stillborn.

In the west we had people such as Newton, a devoted Christian who could separate religion from science (he thought his religious writings were more important than his work on physics). One of the best chemists ever, Joseph Priestly, was a Christian minister. He too was able to separate the world of the spirit from the world of experience.

When exposed to the west, the Japanese knew which path to take. Fukuzawa Yukichi wrote in 1885:

If one observes carefully what is going on in today’s world, one knows the futility of trying to prevent the onslaught of Western civilization. Why not float with them in the same ocean of civilization, sail the same waves, and enjoy the fruits and endeavors of civilization?

The movement of a civilization is like the spread of measles. Measles in Tokyo start in Nagasaki and come eastward with the spring thaw. We may hate the spread of this communicable disease, but is there any effective way of preventing it?

I can prove that it is not possible. In a communicable disease, people receive only damages. In a civilization, damages may accompany benefits, but benefits always far outweigh them, and their force cannot be stopped. This being the case, there is no point in trying to prevent their spread. A wise man encourages the spread and allows our people to get used to its ways.

The Opening to the modern Civilization of the West began in the reign of Kaei (1848—58). Our people began to discover its utility and gradually and yet actively moved toward its acceptance.

However there was an old-fashioned and bloated government that stood in the way of progress. It was a problem impossible to solve. If the government were allowed to continue, the new civilization could not enter.

The modern civilization and Japan’s old conventions were mutually exclusive. If we were to discard our old conventions, that government also had to be abolished.

We could have prevented the entry of this civilization, but it would have meant loss of our national independence. The struggles taking place in the world civilization were such that they would not allow an Eastern island nation to slumber in isolation. At that point, dedicated men (shijin) recognized the principle of “the country is more important than the government,” relied on the dignity of the Imperial Household, and toppled the old government to establish a new one . . .“Good-bye Asia” continued here

Raden Adjeng Kartini reflected a similiar view in 1902. In a letter to a European friend she said:

I long to go to Holland for many reasons; the first is study, the second is that I want European air to blow upon the few remaining prejudices that still cling to me, so that they may be wholly driven away. There are not many left, it is true, but some obstinately remain. Only your cold air, Stella, can make of me in truth, a free woman . . .
