Already receiving God's message...

... At least I feel as though I am.
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum as well as Christ. I gave my life over to him on Easter Sunday of this year.

I already feel as though he is communicating with me. I can't help but feel that he wants me to do mission work... India so far is the place I've prayed over.

Have any of you received this message from God before? I have thought about the idea of going on a mission before giving my life to Christ but never like this.

As for me personally, I haven't ever received a mission like that from God yet. That's not to say it won't happen sometime, I just haven't yet.

I think it's great that you think God wants you to do mission work in India. That could mean any number of things, and could mean anything from one trip, to spending a while over there. I would continue praying about it. Perhaps you can talk to someone who is familiar / experienced with mission work and talk to them.

Whenever I'm not sure of what to do, I pray a lot, and go to other Christians for advice, to have them encourage me and give me some advice on what I should do. God often chooses to use people in our lives to help us make those important decisions, not always, but I find it more common than God speaking to me directly.

Keep praying. If God wants you to do a mission in India, then He will equip you to do so.

Khasilooluv, You may want to consider than mission work does not necessarily mean going to the field. You can aid indigenous workers. I found that native Christian pastors in India can benefit from aid like getting a bicycle to visit neighboring villages. You may want to see if there are mission organizations or even individual missionaries through whom you could provide necessary and effective aid.

Welcome! Sometimes it's hard for any Christian (new or long-time) to tell the difference between God's prompting and our own emotions. I try to avoid being too impulsive when it comes to big decisions. Even if I think I feel God's pull, it's still important to take a practical approach and consider the pros and cons of each option carefully. I'm a firm believer that God gives us different roads that fit into his will. Otherwise, we'd just be inactive passengers.

I'm am conflicted as I really am not sure if it is God's will or my own. I do feel like I have received some strange signs that I normally wouldn't even see.

I will continue to pray about it. If it's God's will then, like you all said, he will make it happen.

Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

I think at some point, most of us get this call Khas. Allot of us including myself suppress it in one way or another, if we're to busy with our own lives or responsibilities.

From all the Christian stories I hear though, God seems to be most active among the missionaries. Some amazing stories of his manifest power.

Get a good training in your scriptural basis before you go. Be ready to answer those difficult questions and make sure your character reflects to the peace you have found in Christ. This might take a little while but don't wait too long so that life over takes your drive to do missionary work. I'm sure you'll be very blessed on your trip and I wish you the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ as you pray over this decision.

Hi Kat, welcome to the family!

I hear from God in similar ways, so that seems very normal to me. Usually it is in ample amount of time to prepare for whatever it is (with a little cushion because God knows I'm a squirrely preparer). Very often I find it is something I would have been shocked over, but when I listened to God's advance notice, it flowed very naturally and I was ready.

There were times offers popped up out of the blue, and I was able to given people an answer within a day because God had prepared me, the way you describe.

Keep an ear open for conversations related to the topic, and start doing research. Preparation is part of any calling, and the whole process is the goal, not just the work you want to do for Him and or people. Meeting people in school is part of the goal, learning about cultures, learning languages, and meeting people from that culture here where you live. Every piece of the puzzle is part of the treasure.

God calls each person to different things, so it is important to trust your own call. There will be people who support, people who don't listen, and people who try to pull you away from your call. Use what is beneficial, and throw out the crud.

On the other hand, be wise and discerning when you get hunches and hear things -- you are not required to jump at the first hunch, and not if someone claims to have a word from God for you. The Bible is full of advice to be cautious, wise, honest, hardworking, diligent, and loving. If a calling takes you away from these things, then slow down its progress.

God is not in a hurry. So stay in step with Him, and don't rush ahead-- just allow your curiosity to build your knowledge. Lay the groundwork. Start praying not just for direction, but also for the people you hope to minister to.

Question:
I have a feeling that God is moving me to talk to a certain person at my school about missionary work. I've since discovered that this person has been on missions twice.

I have a feeling God wants me to talk to her, I'm not sure what about though and I'm not sure how to bring it up. I mean it is weird to bring that up to someone I've probably talked to twice... Maybe three times.

How would you about handling this situation? I do have a feeling that God is saying she will be important in my work, but I'm not sure how, so I'm not sure what to say to her.

I would just try and find a way to introduce yourself. Just go up and say "Hey, I heard you were involved in some missionary work, and I would like to know more about that", or "I have some questions about missionary work, do you think you could talk to me about it?"

People who have done that sort of thing, usually are more than happy to answer questions and discuss their experiences with others.
