  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Order your allergy-free cat today

A California biotechnology company has started taking orders for a hypoallergenic cat for pet lovers prone to allergies. The genetically engineered feline, which is expected to be available from 2007, is the first in a planned series of lifestyle pets, says Los Angeles-based Allerca. Allerca hopes to attract customers among the millions of people worldwide who suffer from cat allergies. Up to 10 percent of the U.S. population alone are believed to be prone to symptoms that can affect the eyes, nose, ears, throat, lungs, and skin. What's next?

Wish they would work on something useful. Perhaps people free of snoring, foot odor, body odor, or bad breath.....
With say, genetic therapy like for diabetic effects?

Gene Therapy Approach Reverses Diabetic Neuropathy In Animal Model, Pitt Study Finds

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 26 – Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have demonstrated for the first time that gene therapy can reverse diabetic neuropathy.....

....To gain entry into the cells, the team designed vectors of inactivated herpes simplex virus (HSV), which normally infects sensory neurons. The HSV vectors were encoded with genes for one of two neurotrophin factors: nerve growth factor (NFG) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3).

"Herpes simplex virus appears to be an ideally suited gene therapy vector for diabetic neuropathy, in part because very little of the virus is needed to get inside the cell...."

I'm a bit wary of their mechanism!

that's weird because hypoallergenic cats already exist on their own... Siberians, who seem to be the ancestors of Persians and other longhairs. They don't produce dander so a lot of ppl with allergies can own them.

That's interesting. I like cats, but I'm one of those people that is so allergic to cats that a tiny kitten could kill me by causing a severe asthma attack. I might have to look into that.

hmm, well they're not entirely guaranteed to be allergy-free or anything but maybe you could meet one somewhere... they don't shed much and don't produce the dander so maybe it would help! But they are still rare in the u.s. and pretty $$$$... I'm looking for one now and a kitten usually starts at $600.
