  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The tile of this dark film is taken from the Louis Carroll poem about Humpty Dumpty's fall. Remember "all the kinds's horses and all the kings men...?"

Everyone falls in this morality tale. Did anyone see it?

It is based on the novel by Robert Penn Warren and is a remake of the B/W version of the 50's starring Broderick Crawford (for which he won an oscar). The lead parts in this remake are played by Sean Penn and Jude Law with minor roles done well by Kate Winslett, Anthony Hopkins, and Patricia Clarkson.

It reminds me somewhat of a Shakespearen and/or Greek tragedy...and does have something to say about politics in general.

Loosely based on the life of Louisiana's governor, Huey Long, who rose to power during the depression era; history buffs will find a true accounting of the era depicted throughout this film.

If you saw it---what did you think? :)

I <3 the book, and I'm kind of afraid to see the movie because I hear that doesn't follow the book very well, and kind of misses the point of the book. I probably will see it eventually though

One of the reviews I read said that this one was a better adaptation of the book than the first one. I don't think I agree. Also, I liked the book better than either film version because it was easier to follow what was going on through the eyes of the narrator...Jack.

Besides Robert Penn Warren, also known for his poety, is an excellent writer and story teller. :)
