All very good points, citanul, and by Adam and Eve, I mean, did the devil go to tempt them as well? Would they have given in, or obeyed God, creating a sinless planet? If God created an alien race(alien to us at least), why wouldn't He let us know? Why would it be a secret? I believe the concept of aliens spring from the realization of how vast the universe really is, and how you could think that there must be other life. I also believe God created the univese, all the stars, planets, galaxies, etc., to show His might and power, to prove to us how great He is.

There are lots of things regarding science that God hasn't let us know about and we've had to discover on our own. Alien life could be another one of those things.

You have to remember that the Bible was written in a time when there wasn't a great deal of scientific knowledge. The authors of the Bible may not have been able to understand or handle the concept of life on other planets (in fact they didn't even know that other planets existed), and so extraterrestrial life doesn't feature in the Bible. Alien life is also completely irrelevant to the message of the Bible, so there's no reason why there should be a mention of it.

Regarding the temptation of Adam and Eve - I think that if God created other intelligent life, then He would have created life with free will, which means that they would therefore have the ability to sin. Of course, what is a sin to us may not be a sin to them and vice versa, but I think it would be reasonable to expect them to be subject to temptations which if they give in to them result in sin.

There's no reason to absolutely reject the idea of aliens. The Holy Scriptures are very much a "need to know" sort of thing for human beings. We need to know what is contained therein, but that's not all there is. After all, Scripture doesn't mention baseball, platypi, or potatoes, but they all exist. Granted, the first is a later invention, but the point still remains.

Citanul,

There are Creationists on CF, so it isn't really tactful to state that there are not two original progenitors of humanity. Other than that, you do raise very good points.

Yeah, looking back now, I probably shouldn't have said that. Although I would have thought that the science fiction section would be more open to evolution than other parts of CF.

We've all heard about people who have seen strange things.
Sightings are there, but we want to identify what they are.
What about ghost sightings?
Could alien life have anything to do with spiritual battles between angels and demons? It might be...
It could be something that the devil is using to distract us from God.
Maybe it's the actual spiritual battle that we can see.
We read about angels visiting people in the bible, does it ever say the angels were women with big white wings and halos?
Does it describe the appearance of angels or demons?

I think alot of alien encounters, UFO & ghost sightings are either:
1. Hallucinations, peoples minds do play tricks on them. They could be caused by the devil.
2. Unexplainable scientific principles, another part of nature and our universe that we are yet to discover. But are they alive just because they appear to be flying? Who knows if the UFO's aren't just spheres of light or dust?
3. Alot of sightings could just have logical explanations.
4. We can never know.

I don't think we should be too worried about these things, just live your life.
We can't fully understand these things, and trying to will just creep you out.

Well, we're just kind of musing about the possibility, not really even taking much account of sightings and such. Such encounters could well have other causes, but we've been more focused on the idea itself. It's no more wrong to consider, imo, than the Magian Kings, or early life of Christ. Just one of those things we don't know, but it can be really cool to discuss.

I think the probability of alien life is extremely high.

I very much doubt that they have been anywhere near Earth.

As for aliens looking like us, the probability is infinitessimally small. I'd give reasons for that, but they fit better on crevo...

Who says they're smarter?

Also, what makes you think that God isn't enough to make them also in His image and they could still be totally different. To me, that would seem to make as much sense as saying He doesn't have enough Love for everyone.

Thirdly, and the last thing currently coming to mind, why would they have to be made in His image? Could He not decide to make them somehow different?

As I've said before, I remain cheerfully agnostic on the subject, so I'm not saying one way or the other here, but I have no reason to make such a descision, so it's no biggie. However, it's always helpful to think about things from as many angles as possible.

I don't believe that there are aliens becuase God made us in his image and therefore we're his ultimate creation. Why would God make beings that are smarter than us besides the angels and God himself?

Hmmmm...I'm skeptical of aliens myself, but you are really using faulty logic here. If I follow the same logic, then why would God make a person like Einstein smarter than me?

I'm talking about us as a whole. I used to believe in Aliens when I was younger, but I did some studying in the scriptures. Mainly in Genesis. I looked at a lot of documentaries but there maybe aliens out there, but I don't care. If there are I don't want them anywhere near me. I just believe that there really aren't aliens out there. But I do believe in Ghosts though. Someone theorized that ghosts are nothing but energy left behind from someone after death. Also the 1st law of thermodynamics says energy can neither be created nor destroyed so therefore when a person dies their energy is converted to a different form. That's one reason why we're eternal beings.

The energy is transferred elsewhere during the decomposition process.

The energy that makes us goes back into the natural system.
