I just discovered this condition of human perception, something I experienced as a child during fevers or migraines. It often occurred during sleeping/dreaming or as I was falling asleep.

I've always thought it was something demonic.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm surprised that no one else has experienced this. Especially as a child. I always suspected that there was a demonic aspect to it.

This has rarely ever happened to me since I was a child. The last time it happened I was having some dark thoughts about a friend of mine who I used to live with. He had mistreated me and others at various times. It's as if those dark thoughts opened a door for evil spirits to enter.

I think evil spirits pray on the sick and the weak. That's another aspect.

I DEFINITELY experience pelopsia and teleopsia. Also usually when I'm feverish, or ill in some way, and I'm about to fall asleep.

I totally didn't know there was a name for it! Weird!

ETA: sorry, I didn't realise this was in the singles forum till I'd already posted!!! hope I haven't broken any rules.

I've heard about the condition but never experienced it myself. Was it a scary experience for you?

The fever dreams were always scary. They were the worst nightmares I ever had. I could never remember exactly what happened in them. But I was in a place (like a region or a planet) that I wanted to escape from. A place without God, it seemed like. Grey and bitter.

I experienced teleopsia and pelopsia in the dreams. But also while I was awake and near sleeping. The best way I can describe it is feeling like I was in a large, dark room (like a skating rink or school gymnasium) and I would be on one side of the room and feel like I was on the other at the same time. Like an optical illusion. At least I knew that it was not real because I wasn't always sleeping at the time.

I've had weird things happen in the places between waking and sleeping, but not size distortion or depth perception problems, just straight up audio/visual hallucination (but never at the same time. I either see something weird or hear something weird, never see something with sound.).

My sister has in her childhood.

I find it interesting that a neurological disorder is named after a book written by a bipolar artist though. Kinda an indication maybe of a bipolar mindset (AIWS affects the sufferer's sense of visual, sensation, touch, hearing as well as one's own body image) being similar in ways to Todd's syndrome

I have no personally had this experience. It doesn't sound fun. I have had some dissociative episodes where I feel like I'm outside of my body, looking from above. Apparently I don't sound like myself when I do this. It's not fun but much different from what you are describing.

My son, his half brother, Father and Grandfather had it, and since the other night my grandson had a bad dream, (demonic of course,) has it as well. 6 attacks today and he is terrified. I always thought it was demonic. we were both attacked in bed recently by a demon that came from a boy who had just received Jesus and had been abused, the demon wanted to rape me but couldn't, was knashing it's teeth at me with rage, then jumped on my grandson sleeping next to me and wanted to sodomize him. I said NO and put my hand over his bottom, and it left. Since then things have got nasty all round, so many problems in the house, things breaking etc, I seem to be running to and fro getting stuff fixed, I live in a small village with a big demonic stronghold and God is moving here and I guess I am responsible somewhat, so I am getting it from all sides. I appreciate prayer for my grandson Christian, as I will now have to take him for a brain scan to rule anything organic out of the picture.
please get in touch with any info or help. cant post email yet.

Actually, reading further on this. My conditions were actually pelopsia and teleopsia. Where objects seemed to be either closer or farther away, instantaneously. Very weird and scary.
I've not experienced anything like that. However, in reading a short part of the Wiki link and that what relates as a possible cause for the symptoms you mention you experience, I'd suggest getting an MRI. Just to be sure. God Bless.

I've had this issue growing up. When I would have a flu or high fever. It was like the room would grow all around me. Pictures became huge but far away. People felt like they would grow or shrink. Sometimes my own body feels super massive. My hands when I rub them together felt gigantic. I was scared of it at first. Then I started meditating on it. Sometimes trying to draw the feeling out. So I could ride the wave. It hardly ever happens these days. I'm 37 years old now. I've found that it is called AWS (Alice in wonderland syndrome) aka Todd's syndrome. It's funny you mention evil spirits being attached to the feeling. Because I only get it now when I am in church and praying with lots of people at once. Having my eyes closed during a powerful prayer can set me on a wave of becoming massive. If I go with it for a long while. Even after I open my eyes it stays with me for a a good 10 min. My hands and body doesn't feel like my own anymore. Like my body becomes alien to my psyche. The blood pumping in me. The feeling of having a massive body. Like I am in the driver's seat of a giant organism. It's the strangest thing. My sister also has it. We've talked about it. We accept it as a normal thing these days. I hope it doesn't bring you trouble and discomfort. I think acceptance and understanding is what will set you free. God bless.
