  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Lol...no, I haven't seen it. I wouldn't touch it with that pole, remember? I heard many many negative things about it (some good things, but not enough to entice me). One of the things I heard was that there was too much (almost to a ridiculous point) importance placed on his possible homosexuality. Another is the format...too many monologues and too little battle scenes. While I usually don't go for the battle scenes, I would expect to see some pretty spactacular ones just because it's Alexander the Great...duh! Lol...it just doesn't sound very good. I'm open to having someone tell me otherwise, however...it's just that nobody has yet.

The problem with the movie is that it has absolutly no focus. There are two large battle scenes (but then again, there are only two battle scenes), and the fact that Alexander is a conqueror is always close to the surface. But we never really see him do all that much conquering, he's just in one kingdom then another doing much the same things in each. There is debate between him and his generals about how to treat the conquered peoples but nothing amounts from it. And the movie clearly isn't about his military career primarily because it leaves it some of his more spectacular victories, and more to the point, completely skips over his campaigns in Greece despite what great scenes these could make and the fact that the movie is three hours long.

So it might seem that the movie is about Alexander's personal life, with the conquering just as background material. But if it is, it does a bad job of it, since we never get a feel for any of the characters. There is one encounter with his wife, then she all but disappears. His mother has some influence over him but we never quite learn the nature of this influence or how much Alexander trusts her. Though we see Alexander and Philip together on multiple occasions, we never quite learn if Alexander hates him for abandoning him, or respects him because of the father son relationship and Philip's military prowess. And finally, though there is a relationship between Hephaestion and Alexander that keeps coming up again and again and again, the movie is too afraid to do much of anything with homosexuality (though it does make sure that all the characters talk about it in an accepting manner), so Alexander and Hephaestion only have long discussions, in which they make frequent vague references to the Iliad. SO on the character based side there isn't much to the movie either.

So what's left to focus on? Nothing really at all. So the movie feels random and disjointed, and by the time the 3 hours are up I stopped caring about anything that happened (which was ashamed, because the second battle scene came during this time and it might have been decent, but I couldn't tell because I was already so bored and disgusted.) This movie might have had potential, but the end product is horrible.

I wonder if in the film they mention the fact that Alexander finally gave up his thirst for conquest when he reached the Indian subcontinent. Its no wonder though that one of the world's greatest conquerors was stopped by one of the world's most safeguarded countries. Safeguarded, not by armies, but by nature.

I heard this film was very much like "Troy" plus I dont wanna see this film, because it supports BI-SEXUALITY, History has proven Alexander to be ethier a Bi-sexual or Homosexual, and I cannot support a film, because of this reason, I wont support Hollywood when it comes to sexual content of any kind in flicks. Volience is okay, because its needed in alot of realistic cases, cursing & sexuality are however never needed in films.

I honestly believe that all Bibical films sould be rated R for realism, because the Bible is Historical Fact, and theres alot of rated R material in the Bible, the wars, pleages, etc etc.

Yes, why, according to hollywood, do all ancient peoples have British accents? Seems queer to me.

I think it's a not so subtle hint:
Britain = imperialist power = baddy
America = rebel against the empire = goody

LOL, I think you two are reading too much into it. Its just an attempt at mild illusion. We want to hear the dialogue in our native tongue, but with an accent it creates the illusion of a "foreign language." It just helps to create a mood. Hey, blame the British actors and actresses for wanting to make a career in Hollywood!

As for the movie, it was terrible. Its my final straw with Oliver Stone... I can't believe he's actually worked on this film for several years, it honestly doesn't show in the movie. I've read historical accounts that suggest and do not suggest that Alexander was bisexual, and I honestly don't care either way... ancient Greek culture or not, there was too much male-male sexual innuendo in the film. There was more to Alexander than his sexuality.

Another bone of contention is the hair..... Collin's hair was wretched. I know Alexander was blonde, but Collin's hair looked like some 80's bleach job... and his acting.... He just didn't capture the "feel" of one of the greatest leaders of all times. His rallying speeches were terrible, in fact, most of the dialogue in the movie was bad. I just didn't like the movie. Sadly, there probably won't be another movie on this historical figure for years to come....
