• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In Patient Alcohol Treatment - In patient alcohol treatment is for those who have had serious alcohol problems for many years, have already tried to and failed to get sober or who feel that they would not have the support or strength to complete an out patient program.

Out Patient Alcohol Treatment - Out patient alcohol treatment is ideal for patients that have less severe alcohol addictions, in sufficient time to participate in an in patient program or possibly who are on the second stage of recovery after an in patient program.

Christian Alcohol Treatment - For many patients participating in a christian or faith based program offers additional benefits and allows them to draw strength from their faith.

Adolescent Alcohol Treatment - Although it is not something we would expect but teenage alcoholism is on the rise and there are some great programs created especially to help treat and deal with the problems of adolescent alcohol treatment.

Would like to add that people come into recovery in many different ways. The important thing is being under medical supervision ( being assessed) as detox may be needed, depending on the drug, length used, and how much. Trying to stop a drug/alcohol ubruptly can result in seizure,
ect. Important to say not all need detox.....
From there it is determined through finances, ect. It is also determined if a long term/short term program is needed.

Insurance is cutting back so some people are stuck with out-patient even though it would be better as a in-patient for them. Some have just gone through the detox process go to meetings and never pick back up again. And sad to say some have gone through many long term programs and just can not stop. It is really a individual process that one size does not fit all.

I was lucky. Detoxed back when insurance picked up most of the tab; then inpatient at a VA before they started billing. How people do it on an outpatient basis eludes me.
Thanks for the input, Angeldiana; by all means let's hear more from you.

we have eachother and a good network here,it helps to just read stuff

Many people have had great success in attending AA meetings. They are free, and depending on where you live, available all day long.

I recommend that everyone attend AA, and learn from people who have been there.

I think it is important for people to know the different types of treatment available. So many people are scared to get help, even when they know they have a problem. Many government supported places exist that give help for free. While some only deal with private insurance, plenty accept medical assistance.

A lot of people don't realize there are two steps for alcoholism treatment - detox and then recovery. While some are fortunate to not be severely addicted, alcohol detox is so important for those who are. Just overcoming the physical addiction is not enough however, it's important to also get help to get over the emotional dependence as well.

Amen to that. I have been in AA for a long time, but only recently got involved in an outpatient treatment program.

There is no shame in seeking help.
