I have an anxiety disorder, sleep apnea, and struggled with sleep for most of my life.

I often have a few drinks per nigh to help me sleep.

I have no information about any treatment that has been prescribed by your Medical Practitioner , @Reilly
Should you be taking alcohol depends on the medicines you are taking.

As to whether you are committing a mortal sin - the only person who can help you with this is your Priest and Confessor

I realise these are possibly not the answers you were seeking but I really feel you should get professional help for these problems

Lord have mercy

Personally, I don’t think so but I do not know. Anhelyna is correct in referring you to your priest. It does sound like you are self medicating though due to your other issues.

Thank you.

In moderation, it’s fine.

Beyond that, no.

I just got back from my kidney appointment, and my labs look fantastic!

Glory to God!

I am continuing to use my CPAP.

* I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. I don't know much about medicine! So this is just my own experience!
That said, I've been having sleeping issues for the last 2 years, which have fortunately for now gone into remission, I had acute insomnia summer of 2023.
I've been reading and researching the issue, and had a complete work-up done by my doctor to make sure it was not a medical issue, and I got a clean bill of health so likely anxiety and maybe age(I'm over 65 post menopausal)
From my research I have found that alcohol suppresses melatonin production in the brain so although the sedative action will cause you to fall asleep more quickly, your sleep will be more shallow, and more broken and you will experience more awakenings and less REM sleep. I have found this to be the case in my own case, more so now that I am older. I just don't sleep well at all if I've had more than once drink before bed. So, I try not to have any alcohol at all for at least 3 hours before bed. I don't drink much anyway these days. Maybe once a month or less.
Alcohol can also exacerbate sleep apnea but if you are using a CPAP maybe not.

I hope I can give up alcohol in this INCREDIBLY ugly town (Lincoln, NE).

ugh

I am so sick of feeling bored 24/7.

God forgive me for being so smug.

No, I am NOT making excuses.

Please, please pray for me.

And ask other Saints to pray for me.
