• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello!

I am an adult survivor of alcoholic parents, and have a handful of issues i have been working on through the years with counseling and other self-help guides. However, I am considering going to an Al-Anon meeting in addition to this in order to meet others who have been through similar cicumstances. What are they like? Would anyone recommend or not recoomend them?

Each Al-Anon group is different in its make up of people. I do know that there are some groups that are specifically oriented for adult children of alcoholics, and you could call or go to the website to learn where those specific meetings are.

I do know they use the same 12 steps as AA, and I believe they also encourage sponsorship. I have not actually been active in it, but have attended some meetings.

I'd look at it like chicken soup when you're sick.......it couldn't hurt....

When I was in my late 20's I attended ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) meetings that were terrible; however, my part in it was that I never worked the steps. At age 41 I attended my first AA meeting and have been progressing ever since.

Do you drink alcoholic beverages?
