  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didnt get to see the "debate" but I did go to CNNs web site and look up the paula zhan (sp?) show. There was a link off of that to the transcript of the show. About halfway down the transcript is where it starts. Not to bad of a deal, but I really didnt like the last word given to that lady. Anyway

I thought the creationist did very well, given the context of the debate.

From reading the transcript it didn't appear the evolution side came off well. It was accused of being a "flawed" theory (Brown), it's proponents were mentioned as trying to suppress the evidence against it and deny equal time for opposing viewpoints. Creationism was presented as an alternative, with scientific models to back it up.

One point the evolutionist made was that the models need to be presented and evaluated by the scientific community, not by politicians and/or public high schools. Again, it seems the evolutionist are "elitists" that have the answers..everything must go through them.

I don't think that plays out very well in our society.

The problem with a debate like this one is that not enough information is given to truly evaluate the merits of either side. You really have to dig down into the scientific models being presented, you have to have a good understanding of exactly what evolution teaches, and creationism, and intelligent design, etc..to be able to make an accurate judgment.

I'd like to see an idepth book written where each side presents some of it's arguments, the opposing side answers, then the original side has a final reply.
Something along the lines of the "Genesis Debate" book.

regards,
