I've spoken with a large number of people, red team, blue team, and plenty I'm not sure about, and all have agreed that CEO pay in large companies is now hundreds of times the median pay of the workers, and that it is way too high, and that life was better in 1960 for example.

Reducing pay disparity is the key left wing policy but all True Patriotic (r) Americans would condemn the left in the strongest possible terms.

The confusion is because the Democrat Party is often referred to as 'The Left' even though they advocate many right wing policies such as unrestricted or not very restricted immigration to drive down pay at the low pay end of the economy.

Bill Clinton signed NAFTA, Hillary favored every war and played a key role in promoting most of them.

So one right wing party is called 'the right' and then other is called 'the left'.

That's why people argue.

Put any one of those people at the top and they would be all for that big paycheck.

It's about power, about supply and demand.

In the US 1975 was when the supply of labor exceeded requirements and from that point onward that pay for the lowest paid declined.

Before 1975 if manufacturing didn't pay enough people would work on farms, so there were competitive pay rates pretty much everywhere.

1975 was the juncture where farm mechanization reduced demand for farm labor, the manufacturing nations of Germany and Japan among others had fully rebuilt from the war and had grown.

This reduced the strength of the manufacturing worker's bargaining position, strikes sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, and wives went into the workforce to make up for the shortfall in male incomes, and being slaves to both a company and a household was sold to them as 'sexual equality'.

With women going to work the workforce increased and the bargaining position weakened even further.

The situation now is whoever controls the money decides where it will go - demographics will not correct the situation.

I've left out a ton of points about innovation and intellectual capital, someone else can write about those.

The countries of Europe are way ahead of the US on rights for workers, having faced the problem centuries earlier when the Enclosures Acts first threw lots of people out of work. The Industrial Revolution fixed it for a while but the basic issue is now one we have to fact too.

Yes, we did with the 1946 Employment Act, but like all the moves to the actual left, this one isn't always working as well as it used to (this bit is complicated too).

CEO pay is out of hand and I do wish they would raise taxes on high incomes. (perhaps 500k and up). They also need to tax capital gains at a higher rate. Many avoid income by getting stock in the company or other forms of compensation that are not always taxed as income.
