  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my kitten is about 4 months and he's really starting to develop an aggression problem. he's starting to bite and scratch all the time, and its really starting to annoy myself and my roommate. is this because he's a male? im planning on getting him neutered next month because i dont want him spraying and whatnot. is there anything i can do to disipline him? thanx

Hi Matty,

I think this is a male cat thing. I've mostly always had female cats, but right now we have a male, and he's very much into the biting and clawing. I think he's just playing. The older he gets though, the less he does it, so maybe your kitten will calm down. I think neutering helps a lot too. A little trick I found worked for me was that each time he comes up and starts to bite and claw my hand, I take that opportunity to reach for the nail clippers and clip his nails, which he hates.

Good luck with your boy!

our male cat was one of the sweetest cats ive ever seen. our female cat, however, is extremely aggresive. does the cat just walk up and bite you? certain things annoy certain cats and make them turn aggresive. one of the best things to help your cat to feel more secure and not have the need to be aggressive is to blink slowly and constantly around it and dont stare it down. blinking shows them you're comfortable and if they blink back at you then it is probably safe to show them affection. males are by nature very territorial and if they dont feel safe and secure then they will bite and spray.

I was told by my vet in the past that catnip with kittens is not a good idea. We once had a beautiful calico kitty and bought a catnip toy for her to play with. After just a short while she went absolultely psycho! Clawing at the walls, hissing loudly, chasing things that weren't there. It was my understanding that kittens respond to catnip differently than adult cats...and that some can be more sensitive to it than others.
Aside from that...there is the "male" cat bit....the territorial stuff; that kind of thing. And yes, neutering him may help cut down on a bit of it. Talk to your vet and ask him/her for their professional advice as to what other things you might try. Good luck to you.

Neutering him will definately help, but it takes a few weeks to see any kind of improvement. We had to deal with the same problems with one of my cats for a year before he finally calmed down. Now, he's a little love bug that wants to be loved all the time. Make sure he has plenty of toys to play with and scratching posts. Taking away catnip is also a good idea.

I have a male kitty that is now 8 months old. He started biting and clawing us, and I just got out the little trusty spray bottle with plain water in it, and a spirt or two will stop it. Now he loves to be sprayed, as the silly guy loves water, but he stopped the aggressiveness. This went on even after he was altered/neutered. (spaying is for females).. :)
