Age differences

My last boyfriend was seven years older than me. The age thing is so much an issue with me. It's more the spiritual maturity that I find more relevant.

I didnt read the thread before answering the poll, and I thought it was a "how many years are between you and your s/o" sort of poll.
Anyways I dont think I could date anyone more then 5 years older then me. Even then its hard.
Luckily my s/o is a little less then 2 years older then me. And that's just perfect.

I don't think age really matters so much, especially if you are at the same point in your lives... though I do admit I was a bit grossed out by the 16-year-old I went to HS with who was dating a 40-year-old. That was icky.

My fiance is 3 1/2 years younger than I am.

I decided to rob the cradle. My bf is 3 1/2 years younger than I. In the past, then men I had dated were right around the same age as I--usually the same age or a few years older. This proves that age isn't always a sign of maturity.

My husband is 3 years 13 days 5 hours and 46 minutes younger than me. But he was of consenting age when we met! I promise. He really truly was.

I agree! I think dating anyone old enough to be your parent is rather strange, especially when you are that young. Once you are older, an age difference is not as pronounced, and then it is less weird. I'd say, never date anyone who is older than your age plus a half. And that is a big enough age difference I think!! (eg. 16+8=24... I don't think anyone aged 16 should date anyone older than 24; 22+11=33... at age 22, I shouldn't date anyone older than 33.)

My future brother-in-law is like 8 or 9 years older than my future sister-in-law, and what they're looking at now is kids: she feels like she wants to wait another few years to start having kids, but he's getting up there in years, so they've just gotta have a compromise *shrug*

My fiancee is 4 1/2 years younger than I am. :-}
I always thought I'd marry someone at least two years older than me. :-}
PS My mother's husband (a wonderful Christian man) is 11 years younger than her.

My parents are 8 years apart (my dad is the older one)
I always teast them, that mom was entering her teens, as dad was leaving his
They met later on in life though...well mom was 19 or so, so it wasnt too bad

I think it depends on if you're in similar chapters and seasons in life (woo! two metaphors for the price of one!)...

my baby and i are 4 years apart and it's perfect.

This is how I always thought about it. And this shows my tendency to complicate things.
I don't feel that age really matters.. but going by the age of the oldest.. Anything up to a 10% difference should be pretty unnoticable and age will present no issues or problems in itself. between 10 - 15%, age differences will be slightly noticable, but will have no direct influence or affect on things. 15 - 20% is when age differences will pop up every once in a while and could cause some issues that need worked on. You'll be at different seasons and have difficulty relating at some points. And so on.

I don't think that age matters much, but the further apart you are, the more you're going to run into periods where you have trouble relating.. and the way you want to live and spend your time will be different. Ways of thinking may be different, and the older will need to avoid seeing phases they went through in the younger. What was a phase for one is not necessary a phase for the other.

I don't think age matters at all. You don't get to choose who you fall in love with. I have been out with boys more than 6 years older than me, and I can honestly say, out of the ages - the younger ones treat you worse. With age comes experience. My current boyfriend is 3 years my senior. It's never an issue for us.

Thats a hard question to answer -- only because it depends on the two people. I've gone out with guys younger than me, and it was fine. But where I'm at now, I think I would have problems with a guy one year younger than me. Only because a guy one year younger than me would most likely be a freshman or sophmore in college (19ish), whereas I am a first-year graduate student. As people have said throughout this thread, it depends on where the people are in their lives. My boyfriend/future fiance is two years older than me, living on his own, paying his own bills, and going to school. Same as me! It works By s/o before him was one year older than me, flunking out of college and living off his parents. It wasn't going to work, because his plans, goals, independence and aspirations were different than mine. God works in mysterious ways, and I think age should not worry a person. Its the inside that counts. If that person is truely made for you, or if you WANT them to be made for you.

My boyfriend is 5 years older then me. I don't think I would go any further apart. Not saything, that it wouldn't work-but for me that's what I think
