• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do we as Christians soul sleep as immediately after death? Or are we brought into the presence of our lord upon death. If the answer is that we are immediately brought into into the presence of our lord, then does that mean that the resurrected people ( assuming god has chosen a place for them in paradise,) such as Tabitha in ACTS 9:40 are brought out of heaven to be back on earth after being resurrected?

When you die you go to the grave and your next existence is the resurrection. When you die you don't become just this disembodied soul watching the world till the resurrection. You go to sleep in the grave. So from your perspective after you die your next experience is waking up to the resurrection.

One good forum for questions about life after death would be the General Theology forum. The Christian Scriptures forum might also be appropriate, if you have a specific set of Bible passages about the afterlife that you want to discuss.

Revelations 5:8. The four and twenty elders would say differently.

So would all the saints who have appeared at various times, such as Moses and Elijah appearing on the Mount of Transfiguration.

Even those who died before Christ were not "sleeping". If that were true, then to whom did Jesus descend to and preach the good news?

1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Sorry, that Jehovah's Witness stuff doesn't fly with Scripture.

I guess I stand corrected we indeed float around the world till the resurrection.

The resurrection is a core christian belief. Paul says like christ was resurrected and glorified in a new perfect body so will we be.

What about those who have visions of their loved ones in heaven, or praying to the saints?

Visions may come from a good place and make us feel good but there are too many contradicting visions people have that aren't true. Think about it this way, do you want your loved ones to sit around watching you while you are on earth, isn't that a little creepy to believe the billions who have died already are in some place where they can watch your every movement? That isn't very comforting at all and makes no sense biblically. The biggest problem with believing that believers meet jesus as soon as they die is how do you fit the resurrection in and eternal judgment in when they already are supposedly in heaven with jesus watching down on us. When Jesus finally decides to come back how do we fit that in with believers who spent years maybe thousands of years for some in heaven to all of sudden resurrect in new bodies. I have no problem if it were true that we immediately go to heaven but I don't think theres a reason to believe it biblically speaking that after we die we go to heaven meet jesus and watch the world from up above.

I'm behinning to wonder if a resurrection will even happen because all the indicators of "the last days" were mentioned to be in reference to the days of the Apostles, such as saying "here in these last days", plus Revelation was addressed specifically to the church leaders at the time. If there was going to be a resurrection it was meant to happen centuries ago. It didn't.
