  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm both excited and worried that I won't be prepared for my new bird even though my parents have been bird owners/rescuers for most of their lives.I'm a horse person and recently my mom finally thought I could have a bird friend of my own..hopefully for life. I know the bird I am going to see is 1 years old,was mistreated, and has behaivor problems.I know he needs US.I wonder if anyone has ever taken in an african grey as a rescue, how it turned out.We have 2 other birds but he will of course be mine, and in his own cage home.I hope he bonds to me,please pray he will work out here. This rescue foundation has many birds, and he has been there for 5 months now. :(

I've had three rescued Greys in my care, ranging in age from under a year to teen years. Considering he's still a baby, you should do just fine. At one year of age it should take you no more than a week to turn around any behavior problems if you can offer him adequate time and work with him daily, and with any African Grey be willing to take some stitches throughout your lifetime. What other birds will you have (just wondering where you're coming from with bird experience)?

Blessings,

We talked about this so you know my thoughts. The people my sister got her macaw from were hoarding birds and he turned up on the shelter-rescue list here like many do that come from people that don't want the bird for anything but status.he has never bitten my sis,nor does he show aggresion. But and a big But here;he is still unwilling to come out of his cage, its been a few weeks.Hows your grey doing? talk @ you later:hug: what did you end up naming the bird?

Assuming the bird is already being called something, I highly recommend against renaming an African Grey, who's memory can reach back to their first week of life even 20+ years down the road. Frustration, confusion, and anger grow in the animal rapidly when one begins calling a Grey something different then what he or she recognizes themselves to be, in turn potentially destroying a relationship before it begins. These guys get lifelong grudges, but once you have one it's no fair to turn back no matter how many bites you get ... so a new name is no way to start a relationship!:p

thanks you guys for reading my post and for the kind support.right now,I am taking their 'required' bird class online, which is fine with me.the greys i looked at are both female by DNA & both already named.the one i held and found best for me belonged to an elderly person that died.i held her for 10 mins and the rescue staff thought she and i would work out best.the other one:cry: is going blind with a disease and takes medicine but it can live just as long, just needs more attention.i don't know who to adopt, but really the decision of the rescue team will choose for me. i feel depressed after seeing so many birds(mainly cockatoos) needing adoption.its expensive,i can only get 1 right now my parents said.anyways,i have a few weeks to wait this out,and show them i have bird knowledge and interest.they dont take into consideration that you've already had birds.i guess anyone can say that.they also will visit our home:eek: our other 2 birds are my moms cockatiel, and my dads amazon parrot.ok's see ya:wave: ty for responding!!!
