I have the blessed honor of preaching this coming Sunday as our pastor will be away. As you know, I am a Calvinist who worships in the tradition of George Whitefield in the United Methodist Church.

The UMC never makes a big deal out of Reformation Sunday (probably a tad too comfy with the RCC, I suppose), so I wanted to do something in high fashion for our service this coming Sunday. I am looking for recommendations.... I am considering discussing the 5 solas as the Reformation call back to biblical Christianity. What do you all think?

Clement of Rome--that sounds like a very good idea. I believe it is a good way to provoke the thoughts of people towards serious contemplation without offending anyone. The five Solas are fundamental to all right thinking concerning God. Plus it sounds like something out of the ordinary that people will find both enjoyable and edifying. Wish I could be there!

I love the Solas - can't hear enough about them. Pastor David will frequently say something in his sermon that references "Scripture alone teaches us that" and the congregation finishes the othe 4 Solas.

Seriously - don't know how much time you'll have or how much time you would want to devote to each one. If you had to narrow it down and choose one, I'd recommend Soli Deo Gloria simply because we've become so touchy/feely in our worship that sometimes I think we forget who we're there for.

No matter what topic - I'll have you in my prayers.
