  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some advice on a sticky situation. My best friend has recently become very close to my pastors wife and has come under their 'authority'. As a result she is now called on at all hours for any and every situation, for counselling, to run the youth group, to attend different conferences and much other church stuff. Well this is not bad in itself she is now so busy I hardly ever see her at all and I fear she is becoming worn out, she also works a normal job as well. My fear is that most of the other people who have done this authority training have had physical breakdowns from the fast pace. Should I say something directly to her? I have already told her to look after her self but she doesn't seem to take much notice. We have just left this church (for totally different reasons) so I don't want to seem like having sour grapes.

Hi Kiwi,

Maybe you could talk to her and let her know that you're concerned and even tell her that you miss spending time with her. But you may find out that she is having the time of her life and loves being so involved. Most people won't do such things if they don't like it. I think it's important for you to tell her how you feel for the sake of your friendship and for yourself. Once you talk you may both feel better.

I agree w/ Jenn, try letting her know how you feel. It may be possible that she feels pressured into doing so much. If you are able try talking to the pastor and/ or his wife they may be able to help out in getting her to slow down a bit.

In Christ,

Good advice, but does she have time for her prayer time, time in the word, her family and a little time with her friends? If not, this is not a good situation. Perhaps you can pray about it and then God will tell you what to say.
