If you were around to advise Charlemagne on the conquest of Europe what kind of advice would you give him
My advice would be that the churches would unfold in ages...
Ephesus - Apostolic
Smyrna - Martyr
Pergamos - Pergos is a tower... Needed in the dark ages
Thyatira - The spirit of Jezebel is to control and to dominate.
Sardis - A sardius is a gem - elegant yet hard and rigid. Is the rigid doctrine the answer to our spiritual deadness?
Philadelphia -To be sanctioned is to acquire it with love.
Laodicea - Materialistic - Rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing?
It would be as an estimation that the Thyatirean Church age began with Charlemagne, who was a champion for the cause of Christianity. Appalled by the illiteracy of his time, Charlemagne imported scholars from Ireland, Britain, and Italy. Out of these schools were to arise the universities of Europe. In 787, Charlemagne issued to all the bishops and abbots of France a historic Capitulare de litteris colendis, or directive on the study of letters. It reproached ecclesiastics for uncouth language and exhorted every cathedral and monastery to establish schools where clergy and laity alike might learn to read and write. A further capitulary of 789 urged the directors of these schools to take care to make no difference between the sons of serfs and of freemen, so that they might come and sit on the same benches to study grammar, music, and arithmetic. Upon this foundation was the Thyatira church built. And it seems to be a grand foundation.
"If the church crowned the emperor was not the church paramount?"
I had a book called 'The age of chivalry' that I got this quote from. I hate I cannot find the book to find the source. In 800 A.D., Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne emperor of the Romans.
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The Empress Irene (753-803) was the only female to ever rule at Constantinople. If Pope Leo could have married Empress Irene they would have ruled the known world!

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]If I could go back in time I would have cautioned Charlemagne on giving the church too much power. I also would have lectured him on what I believe were the seven church ages. Power tends to corrupt the minds and hearts of men. The Thyatirean church became to big and it is my belief that the Protestant Reformation was a good thing.
But... Charlemagne ruled with a heavy hand. Latin Christianity was to become the religion of Europe whether people wanted to convert or not! Charlemange may have liked the idea of control and domination.
