• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A double pronged thing here...

1) I'm just starting on the patches... and a 30 year habit doesn't fall away easily... so ALL prayer appreciated...

2) A friend of mine in the US (I'm in Australia where there is NO smoking BY LAW in ANY place of employment) is working with a heavy smoker and finding it hard to cope with because of the smoke... they are getting headaches and having trouble sleeping when they get home as a result of the smoke they breathe in during the day... She asked me - as she knows I have smoked for years and am trying to give up - if I knew of anything that would help such as air purifiers etc...

I'm at a loss and all i could suggest was using something like ventalin to open the airways but that i thought it was best to do so AFTER work so she didn't end up breathing MORE smoke as a result... but that she should consult a Dr first...

Anyone got any ideas????

Prayer appreciated for this situation also...

We used to be a smoking family.....we had one member that didn't smoke (well plus the little grandkids) At that time I purchased one of the hepa-filtered air cleaners....it was a big one.....it was also SO helpful with the smoking problem. the one person who didn't smoke, said it greatly diminished the smoke as well as the stale smell of cigarettes. It had both a hepa filter and an outer foam/charcoal filter. The thing cost about $100 and the filters had to be replaced about once a year at the cost of $50.. .Your friend should check into these air cleaners.....they are well worth the cost.
I don't know what type working situation this person is in, but can't imagine an employer demanding that this situation go on? She should talk to her boss....smokers may have rights but they should not be allowed to pollute the air of the non-smokers to the extent that this sounds like?
