  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The OP asks: "If there was a sport web site their offical site that advertised a sinful company like porn or something, would it be bad to watch that sports league?"

Since I don't care for Sports ... YES, it's bad to watch it.

I was wondering about the "sinful company" thing.

Is there a company which is NOT sinful in any way?
If not, then this Thread is a general call to boycott Sports.

If there was a sport web site there offical site that advertised a sinful compony like porn or somthing would it be bad to watch that sports league?

Hi ColdDonut,

Do you mean that the site has an ad on it and that ad is for a porn site?

if it does then there is probably spyware and malware, etc all over that site, the sports site, as I've been reading on techy things and they say the worse sites for viruses, etc. are porn/gambing and social sites.

Just going to any website, not even clicking anything and your system can get stuff..

but ...

go to this site..which is a harvard/google project and if the sports site is reported for having malware etc present on it.. it will tell you.. if people have gone to that site who work for this organization.

http://www.stopbadware.org/home

once here, look to the right column, and see where it says Badware website clearinghouse with a number - click where is says click here, then it will have you type a code (to prevent bots) and then put in the link. just the name.com part.

then if there are any hits, will show below, just scroll down a bit after hitting enter.

if there are any reports on that site..then could mean that when clicking on an ad, malware will download to your system, or could mean just being on the site loads malware/badware/trojans etc to your system..

either way, if i would get a hit, i wouldn't go to the sites but I've yet to hit on one that has any results.

if you have good protection on your system, your system might let you know that things are attempting to download. There is a social site I go to, which the site itself doesn't have hits, but other sites using same the same host does, so for now I think the site I go to is safe.

surely not all sites have been visited by those who are working that organization but it is a help.

okay, back to the topic at hand...

I really don't know what to say.

But I go to youtube, and I hear there's porn there.

As I always put in search what I am looking for, I've never hit on any..as i'm not browsing, and not looking for porn.

while at youtube, i dont see ads for porn, but they do flash videos on the home page which look like they might be something I don't want to see.

i don't know if youtube has x rated stuff, but if it did, as I'm not seeing it when Im searching for things, singers, music, new stories, etc.. it's not troubling to me

if it were known to be a porn site...meaning..come to youtube for porn..i wouldn't go there..

if the ad for porn troubles you in any way, then I wouldn't go there...

I know certain things in my life which I can and can not handle...

as sports sites are more geared to men, I can see why they would advertise porn..

so as I'm out of the mainstream and not a male and never run into these situations, I would recommend you also make this post in this forum:

http://christianforums.com/f459-christian-philosophy-ethics.html

In this forum we are in now, is majority populated with non Christians and the link above is majority populated with Christians. Both forums have both non Christian and Christian, but each one populated differently.

It's good to get all takes..and as I noticed you are a Christian thought you may not know of the other forum called Christian philosophy and ethics.

I don't see it as a Christian dilemma but as a question of ethics you are asking as to what others think..

so to get an all around opinion, posting here as you did and there as well would give you such.

take care,
tapero

If it's against you r personal beliefs, then yes, you believe it's sinful to watch. Me, personally, I don't care how any free entertainment gets revenue unless it's illegal. Some, like sports leagues (*cough NFL cough*) , rely on TV (and advertising) contracts to fund player salaries, but at some point the league/team/stadium etc. had to authorize every single advertiser.

If that makes sense to you. :)

Once you start down that path you leave yourself open to legitimate criticisms over the things you AREN'T "boycotting". My advice is to go ahead and do/don't do whatever makes you feel good inside, but keep it to yourself. Calling attention to what you are doing and why will only result in you looking like a hypocrite.
