Why don’t we advertise like most churches do? We claim that we want the Christian faith to grow, and yet we aren’t out there telling people that we’re a church first and foremost… it’s great we help out physically, but when the world knows that we help out physically more so that spiritually, doesn’t that tell us that there’s a problem?

Advertise what? Service times? Hmmmm... I know this is fairly common in Australian SA churches...

It's weird. I think one of the reasons people don't connect us with 'church' is that we don't tend to act like one. That's not always a bad thing! I've noticed that people who've been helped a lot by the SA know full well we're a church... people in the rehab centres, youth hostels etc. It's middle-class suburbia that doesn't tend to realise.

Would you agree?

I agree.. but I'm not content in settling with what we have, I want to witness more - into the general public who doesn't go into rehab.. the common citizen who only thinks we're a thrift store.. what would happen if we not only ministered to the poor and rehabilitated, but to the upper class well-off as well?

A church? How come? At least here in Finland Salvation Army is a non-denominational Christian charity organisation. Religious, but not a separate church.

I'm afraid it is my friend.

The worldwide Salvation Army is a denomination in it's own right.

It might not always be seen as such, but that is the way it is.

Advertising our social work is allowed, but we are not allowed to advertise as a church

The local SA advertises regularly in the newspaper on the religion page.
I believe things are different in the States.

Churches have the freedom to advertise there.

Churches are free to advertise here in Canada as well. To many churches don't make use of the media or sign boards.

The Newf. and I lived at Lumsden Saskatchewan for a couple of years, a sign company in one of the local cities had a slogan which went something like this, "A business with no sign is a sign of no business". I often thought, that here in Canada at least, it is true of too many churches.

On the other hand the business slogan that says, "the best advertising is by word of mouth from our satisfied customers", is likely true of every church that is reaching the lost today.

Sorry, I'm again.
