Missouri:

Daviess was established at the same time as Caldwell County, the so-called Mormon county.

The Prophet Joseph Smith moved to Far West, Caldwell County, in the spring of 1838.

During the next few months, he traveled north to Daviess County on several occasions. It was Joseph who identified Adam-ondi-Ahman as a site of great historical and spiritual importance, including major events that have yet to unfold in future days.

Much information associated with this site comes from sources that need to be carefully examined. However, because it is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints's official canon of scripture, Doctrine and Covenants 116 sustains the historical and doctrinal tradition of this special place.

Doctrine and Covenants 116
1 Spring Hill is named by the Lord Adam-ondi-Ahman, because, said he, it is the place where Adam shall come to visit his people, or the Ancient of Days shall sit, as spoken of by Daniel the prophet.

D&C 116 has only one verse.

"Adam's Altar, which was mentioned, I have visited many times. I sat upon the wall of stone and reflected upon the scenes that had taken place thousands of years ago right where I was. There were the rocks that Father Adam used.... My father's house stood about two hundred and fifty yards from that altar, on the bottom land of Grand River, in the valley of Adam-on-Diahman."
Oliver B. Huntington, Juvenile Instructor, Nov. 15, 1895, p. 700-701
