  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for the reference. I was thinking of feet and inches. If accuracy was less than 3% then it would never had occurred to the ancients that ratio of circ. of a circle to the diameter was less than 3.

This is a concept called significant figures. One of the things I dislike about biblical criticism is the complaing about pi = 3. To one significant figure it most assuredly does.

Significance is a very important topic.

However, the key is that if the molten sea mentioned in the bible was 10cubits, approximately 14 feet(?) that would be the difference of nearly 2 feet or so in the circumfrence of the final sea. If it is 10cubits across it should be 31.4 cubits around. (assuming that 1 cubit is about 1.4 feet).

It is reasonable to assume that the ancients would have been able to discern this distance. I should think.
