Why else would our fathers have concocted Him and his ilk except to assuage their own perceived insignificance -- the same insignificance you repress every day?

We are anything BUT a meaningless speck.

Passive-aggressive wish-fulfillment doesn't make you any less insignificant, dad -- you do not have, nor will you ever, have the power or the authority to tell anyone else what or how to think.

Actually genetic analysis shows we are related not only to cockroaches and flatworms but every living thing. We are family. Tell me, are humans animals?

I agree with you here. Every person is important. Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Pagans, Atheists, etc are all important. I believe that nobody should be discriminated by the color of their skin, religion or anything. That is why we took Christian prayer out of schools and provided a moment of silence. That way each individual can pray or not pray how they see fit.

So far science has done a lot more to help people than religion. Religion is important for spiritual/psychological matters and has been an important survival tool and a way to explain the world to early humans. Religion has not found cures for diseases, built cars or airplanes, or anything else.

Fundamentalists refuse to let God out of the box they've created for him, their idolatry of the Bible has turned them into modern day Pharisees. Picking and choosing what verses they want to follow and what verses they want to take literally they take all means necessary to keep a grasp on their interpretations. From statements about a "different state" past based on a single verse to wild hypotheses on where the flood waters went they have no scrupples on contorting truth to make their story work.

Religious Fundamentalism is a poison that clouds the mind, blinds the eyes, and pollutes the soul.

When I was a boy, at the end of summer, when church was as hot as the hot place, the priest would keep us after mass to say a rosary, a prayer for rain. Presumably, God knew what we needed, and God knew what we wanted, and God could have sent rain whenever he saw fit. But we had to grovel and suffer for it to hurry him along. The rain always came, eventually, and it rained on those who didn't pray just as much as on those who did.

I would hardly call any of the nordic countries "prisons". In my travels to Norway, Iceland and Finland I'd have to say if any place up there is a "prison" I'd jump on the first paddy wagon taking me there. I will confess to never having been to Sweden, though. What was your experience when travelling there, Dad?

I shopped at Ikea! Actually, I did talk to someone from there not long ago, and got a few details of what goes on. I think the analogy of a prison is adequete. Of course they are not in a literal prison. Reminds me a bit of Canada. They aren't allowed to carry guns there, taxes are too high.

Don't get me wrong, I get along fine with the enslaved.

Because legality in this wicked world, for one thing, is not the measure of what is right! It is the measure of what endless silly wicked laws, wicked men create! I also would ask if that weed was there at creation, of was something that evolved from some weed after the curse? It is natural, in the sense of being part of the present temporary nature. Beasts in a meaningless fluke festival can never have real meaning. Created intelligences, in a created universe, that has a purpose, and direction, and Overseer can have plenty of meaning.

You miss the point. (Surprise? Not!) The point is that an omniscient omnipotent God is going to do whatever he wills and isn't going to change his mind because of flattery or groveling.

Whether prayer is forced or willing, it is impotent. You want to pray? Go to your room and shut the door.
