  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Welcome!

I will leave the complicated stuff to more experienced Catholics, but I wanted to tell you a little about my experience with the Catholic Church (CC).

Over one year ago, I knew very little about the CC. Then, I began to meet the nicest and kindest people I have ever known. It turns out that they were all Catholic. That got me interested. After investigating the CC--much to my surprise--it became evident that not only was this Church the right one for me, it is THE Church for all of humanity. (Someone else will explain that.) I decided that I wanted to join.

Since then, my life has completely changed. (No, its not all hand clapping and smiles now, but I feel that I have more purpose in my life than before.)

I encourage you to look into the CC with an open and seeking mind.

God Bless!

P.S. What do we have that you don't? The real presence!

Hi Katie,

I can tell you that one of the most important teachings of the Catholic church is also one of the most important teachings of Jesus Himself. Love for your neighbor. We are taught to love everyone. We are taught that through this love we show our love for God. The love we have for our neighbor is God's love manifest in us. We believe you cannot love God if you do not love your neighbor. :) There is a very important emphasis on this in the Church. This is why Catholics have been know for service, feeding the hungry, speaking out against abortion, and may other good works. We feel that DOING is better than just saying. We show our faith and love for God in the way we treat the people around us.

Welcome to OBOB and I am glad you are here :D

Welcome, Katie! Stick around and you'll see that there is a great love here, a "peace" from Christ that comes from fellowship in Him and with one another, in the fullness of faith.

Remember we are all sinners unworthy of God's mercy, but we are called to be holy and strive to cooperate with God's grace.

I encourage you to keep asking questions, keep seeking the Truth, keep seeking GOD and to deepen your relationship with him. In that way, you will never go wrong: "Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is..." (Amos 5:14) and "he rewards those who earnestly seek him" ! (Heb. 11:6)

Welcome Darknessfalls

I think from a converts perspective its a matter of finally feeling "at home" in the church. I was raised Methodist at a great church but in my late teen and college years I drifted far from Church and frankly, Christ.

I married a cradle Catholic and spent 7 years trying to return the the Methodist Church but felt divided. I never found the right church and I even tried just watching it on TV, which was probably strange. I also spent those 7 years fighting the Holy Spirit and arguing with my wife about the Church.

Finally I started to attend Eucharistic Adoration at 2am once a week (and I was NOT even Catholic yet) and there Christ and the Holy Spirit worked to show me through prayer, biblical study and stories of other converts that I was already home in the Catholic Church. I just needed to convert and come home.

And I've never more happy or at peace with my decision to come home.

Hope this helps!

Peace,
KC

No offense, but I must say that your signature is a real downer."pain, sorrow, anger, alone"

That is depressing. However, ppl. undergoing a depression do talk this way (I should know. :sigh: ). You know Katie, if you ever want to talk about issues like this, CF has a forum for struggles and depression (I'm a frequent visitor. :sigh: ). And of course, you can PM me if you want to talk...
