There was a lady in our area when I was young that had 17 kids and they were dirt floor poor, My granny adopted one of the little girls and other families from around the area took in some of the others. They only kept 10 of the kids [Boys] and on her death bed as a old woman in the hospital, She would say "please; no more babies"
I find this terrible now and so sad, But back then people stayed to themselves and didn't get involved like they do today.
