  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have a special Inauguration Day offer: free doughnuts. But opponents of reproductive choice have targeted the brand’s sweet deal as a celebration of "abortion on demand."

A Jan. 16 article in the blog Pam's House Blend quotes the Krispy Kreme news release, which reads, "Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is honoring American’s sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20."

But the proximity of the words "free" and "choice" evidently triggered an unintended association for American Life League founder Judie Brown, who issued a news release of her own, taking exception to the offer and claiming that the complimentary treats were "’Freedom of Choice’ Doughnuts" rather than an offer for customers to select a free-of-charge doughnut of their liking from an assortment of options.

So what is your opinion on Krispy Kremes evil plan? ^_^

I find it funny how people can come up with these conclusions

I think the phrasing is awkward at best and at worst the American Life League founder is right.

I also find it a very strange choice of words as Krispy Kreme seems to have a smaller selection of donuts then other donut shops, in short they give less freedom of choice.

Their PR peopel are either idiots, or far more likely brilliant and cynical and were looking for this all along.

So freedom of choice always means abortion? I don't get it?

Sadly, truly extreme anti-abortion activists do seem to think the word "choice" means "abortion".

Fortunately there are more moderate anti-abortion individuals out there, with considerably more sense, intelligence, and reason than Ms. Brown apparently possesses. She is clearly desperate to see abortion everywhere, even where it is not. I doubt actual dialogue on the issue is possible with Ms. Brown, sadly.

As far as the doughnuts themselves: Krispy Kreme really ain't all that. They're good when they're hot, with a big glass of milk; after they go cold they're like sugar-flavored wax with a bunch of air in the middle. Definitely not post-abortion snack caliber. I'll take a nice, bready maple bar any day.

It's just possible I'm being facetious here. :p

I think all the Krispy Kreme stores here went out of business after only a couple years... I never cared for them. But maybe if I had known they were pro choice doughnuts I would have gave them my business...... :p

My first Krispy Kreeme experience was in Georgia while in the Army. I hadn't had a doughnut all through basic training and infantry school so when I saw them while at airborne school I thought I had won the lottery. It was the worst doughnut I had ever had. I dismissed it as probably being old crappy doughnuts donated for free to the Army.

Then later I had one off post at a Krispy Kreeme shop. That is when I realized Krispy Kreeme doughnuts just plain suck.
