ABC News’ Linsey Davis, one of two moderators for last week’s presidential debate, admitted to the Los Angeles Times that the plan was only to fact-check former President Donald Trump, and not Vice President Kamala Harris.

I read they were prepared to fact check the most egregious lies, and missed many on both sides. Of course, Trump presented with many more opportunities, and they only caught 5.

I suppose with all the other lies it's probably difficult for even the left to trust anything their own people say...

You're not believing "the moderator." You're believing Breitbart's dishonest description of what she said. They linked directly to the LA Times article, which you could have read for yourself:

The relevant passage:
With co-moderator David Muir, Davis had studied hours of campaign rallies and interviews to prepare for the much-anticipated event at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center, and were ready to counter the candidates’ most egregious statements.

Davis, wearing pink glasses while speaking to The Times over breakfast at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia, said the decision to attempt to correct the candidates was in response to the June 27 CNN debate between Trump and President Biden, whose poor performance led to his exit from the race.

Davis acknowledged that she and Muir could not nail every misstatement. But they did study each candidate’s body of work ahead of time and had an idea of what to expect.

(emphasis mine)

Note that in every case where they describe what they studied or planned to address, they reference both candidates, not one.

I suppose with all the other lies it's probably difficult for even the left to trust anything their own people say...

Breitbart straight up lied about what she said and neither you nor the OP bothered to take 60 seconds to read the original source. But please, go ahead and tell us more about how it's the left who are untrustworthy.

If I counted correctly, they only corrected Trump four times, on subjects that were clear, predictable, easy to correct, and not about his opponent. Harris's falsehoods largely didn't fall that way. They let a bunch of things from both candidates slide.

Maybe your guy should just stop repeating dumb stuff from Twitter if he doesn't want to get called out on it.

Your bias is showing. The most glaring error that would have been so easy to correct was the “good people on both sides” lie.

One of the characteristics I listed about the lies they corrected were that they weren’t about his opponent. Both of those lines you guys cited are about Trump. They didn’t correct anything Trump said about Harris.

Trump: "I’m not putting anybody on a moral plane. What I’m saying is this: You had a group on one side and you had a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs -- and it was vicious and it was horrible. And it was a horrible thing to watch.

"But there is another side. There was a group on this side. You can call them the left -- you just called them the left -- that came violently attacking the other group. So you can say what you want, but that’s the way it is.

Reporter: (Inaudible) "… both sides, sir. You said there was hatred, there was violence on both sides. Are the --"

Trump: "Yes, I think there’s blame on both sides. If you look at both sides -- I think there’s blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it, and you don’t have any doubt about it either. And if you reported it accurately, you would say."

Reporter: "The neo-Nazis started this. They showed up in Charlottesville to protest --"

Trump: "Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves -- and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."

Moderators should not even be attempting to fact check anyone at all in any debate whatsoever.
Just let them get away with all the lies they want? That would give the most lying candidate the advantage.

I propose that we allow the American people themselves the ability and the right to determine for themselves who is telling truth and lies. That is NOT the job of a debate moderator.

To be fair Mr trump is world renowned for his telling of lies. Having a list of the ones he normally trots out is just good preparation.

because they've got such a good track record on that subject...

That is NOT the job of a debate moderator.
It certainly can be if the debate is structured as such.
