  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I came across this quote, and thought it was very encouraging, and very true!

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past,
worry about the future,
or anticipate troubles
but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."

~ Buddha

Quickest way to come down with psychosomatic and psychogenic ailments is to 'stuff' our grief work and 'stuff' our worries. Care givers have the highest incidence of cancer and high blood pressure of anyone because they "hold it in." We've got to have someone somewhere we can safely share our griefs and fears with. As Jesus said, "come to me, all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." Jesus knew best. Buddha would have made a good Christian if he had had the opportunity.

Here's a prayer for setting yourself free of the concerns of the day:

Thanks for the comments guys!
Buddha's life, parables and teachings were shockingly similar to Jesus'! If you read Buddha The Gospel, you will be shocked at the similarities!

Thanks for the link, Timuchin!

Hello Steph!

This really is something. This quote shows that the things that are true are universally and eternally true. It also shows that the deepest longings of the human soul are common to all mankind, all of whom were created in God's image.

As you mentioned, there are definite similarities between the quote you shared in Post #1 and the teachings of Jesus. In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, especially in Matthew chapter 6, Jesus stresses the importance of both letting go of the past through forgiveness and of letting go of the future by not being anxious for tomorrow. Rather than being focused on the past or the future, Jesus presents the most marvelous, most blessed life, for us to live today: "For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." :amen:

I do see a real seeker for the truth in Buddha. Surely He hungered and thirsted for truth, for reality. I agree with dear brother Timuchin - if Buddha had lived after Christ's death and resurrection and had heard about Jesue, surely his longing for truth would have led him to seek after, and believe in, Jesus Christ, the One who is the Truth!
