  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear All,

I would like to share with you a simple tip to get your emails noticed in your mail recipients inbox from the dozens of other emails they receive.

Have you noticed that in your inbox all the emails are lined up and you have to scroll through them to find the name of the sender you are looking for. When you send an email your recipient has the same problem.

If you want to make your email stand out from the rest you have to reposition it in the inbox to make it more prominent.

Here's how to do it. Click on email menu on your PC. Scroll down to the Internet Accounts menu. On Windows Mail and Outlook it is found under the Tools menu.

Click on the properties menu. Go to the the user information tab. In the username box will be the name that will appear in your recipients inbox.

Just insert a couple of dashes before and after your name so it looks like this --Jonathan Jarvis-- Then click Apply and OK.

You can experiment by using different symbols such as stars or plus signs. A good source different symbols to insert can be found by accessing the special characters section on your PC. I don't know if smilies will work. If they do can someone let me know?

I hope you find the above useful.

Kind regards

Jonathan Jarvis

If you want to be noticed then change your name to Robert Redford. They will notice that. I changed the name of my wireless network to the FBI. All the people that I had no idea was using my network began to comment on it. Actually I still plugged the old network back in for people to use without a password. That is just the one I use, it was set up by the cable company and it is suppose to be more secure.

Hmm. I was going to try this in my Outlook 2007 system, and I can't find the menu you're talking about. What version of Outlook is your tip for?

Just leave as is. What he's suggesting will get your messages marked as spam.

I've worked IT for a long time. I know what I'd doing...

I've never experienced this. But I take on-board your experience and any difficulties you have found.

If you wish to take up my advice the field you want to amend is found under Tools / accounts / then click on the Imap or Pop3 account under mail. The field you need to amend is under General Information where your name is.

Most people would find lots of symbols or smilies either annoying or a red flag for spam.

Yep, nothing puts Junk in it's place quicker than symbols & smilies in the Subject Line.

Also if the users sort by Date (you know most recent e-mails at the top) that wouldn't help anyways would it?

Also don't bother trying to force Read Receipts, everyone I work with has them set to ignore & don't send back a notice.
