I am a guy who has thousands of friends, literally. You know what I mean.
Yesterday I went to the local Wal-Mart and it seems that every person in there knows me. While I was stopped on one isle talking to a couple, people lined up on the other side waiting to speak to me.
One has to tell me about a son that is some kind of prodigy, while another wants to talk about a 13 year old daughter that looks like a model. Yet another is an
engineer who wants to give me great details about a
steamboat he is building.
One wants to ask me what's wrong with his TV while another wants me to repair his vcr. An employee, who is pregnant, is demanding that I come up with a suitable and appropriate name for a boy.
An ex business partner wants me to meet one of
his daughters in from colorado, and then re-live old
times in the business over a cup of coffee in the back.
Another veteran wants to reminisce about the Viet Nam
war, while yet another one demands to know why I do
not attend Legion meetings.
Then the mayor of a near-by small town approaches insisting I ride in some sort of parade and receive the Key to the city. A local surgeon, who looks like a janitor wants to exchange pleasantries along with his wife from the former country of Ceylon.
You think I am kidding? The list goes on and I have no room to complete the list in this posting. Just one time? Or once in a while? No! Everytime its like that!
I have thousands of friends? Nah! Just a lot of people who know who I am. They know my face and each one knows some little thing about me, or at least they think they
do.
A friend is one who knows you are just an old chunk
of coal, but who sees you for the diamond you could
be, and instead of tearing you down, strives to help
you become that diamond.
A friend is one who forgives, and forgives, and forgives, and forgives, no matter how many times you hurt them, and never gives up on you.
A friend knows how imperfect you are and is still your friend. You can lay your head in your friends lap and get love and consolation, no matter how unlovely or how unloveable you may be.
Are you a friend like that? If so, God bless you! Do you have a friend like that? If you do, you are MOST blessed! Not everyone is so blessed.
If you have such a friend tell that friend TODAY how much they mean to you. Tomorrow may be too late. In fact, dont just tell them find some way to show them!
You know what I think is the best way? Be that same kind of friend to them!!!
